Please don't mind my picture. I do not take good pictures but I can assure you I am a very simple minded person who also values simple rather than complicated. I am also pretty easy to talk to. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of Utah. I earned my degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2007 from the University of Phoenix. I have enjoyed a very well-rounded and eclectic 17 year career counseling others; both young and old, from a very wide and diverse population. Prior to COVID, all of my patient interactions had been in one-on-one sessions. I have since been practicing telehealth therapy only since September 2019.
The issues I work most with are depression, anxiety and stress as well as anger, post-traumatic stress disorder and some personality disorders. I have a deep abiding interest and respect in all the work I do with greater interest in what I term forensic challenges involving "looking for the needle in a haystack" should the circumstances warrant it. My overarching goal(s) are in helping you attain resolution, peace, understanding and a better perspective of the concerns that bring you to counseling.
I strive to create an environment that allows my clients to actively process and explore, find their way, learn about themselves, and grow to be directors of their life. My approach is eclectic based; meaning I combine different therapeutic approaches based on the client's presenting concerns, goals and motivation, via the use of cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, brief therapy and solution-focused therapy with particular attention to a psychodynamic approach which emphasizes how certain life events and relationships both past and present affect your current feelings, relationships and choices. It's goal is to help you understand negative feelings and repressed emotions so you can resolve internal conflicts and improve your life experiences, self esteem and relationships.
To help you have the most successful experience in counseling it is important to me that we work together in establishing what your needs are and how I can be of most benefit to you. With that comes responsibility and transparency and the establishing of rapport, trust and communication which can only happen when we work together. I have counseled others for many years and believe my counseling style to be approachable and warm. I enjoy what I do and am genuinely interested in what brings you to therapy and hope that you would feel comfortable throughout. I look forward to working with you and getting to know you.

Lani's been the most helpful therapist I've had. We worked through some heavy anxiety and mild depression, but also spent a lot of time really digging into childhood traumas and the impact those have on my thinking and outlook on situations. Plus, understanding those really helped me reframe my thinking. Nothing was about putting blame on anyone else. It was all about realizing where thoughts and feelings may have developed and finding a new way to create self-compassion.

I engaged in counseling with Lani for about 2 months during an anxiety crisis. She helped me find the courage to start medications and gave me resources to use on the daily to combat my anxiety. I feel so much more hopeful and optimistic from my time with Lani. I don’t feel like anxiety controls my life anymore. When I have intrusive thoughts creep in, I have better ways to deal with them. This app is such an incredible resource, and Lani Ete is a great counselor.

I have been so happy to work with Lani. She provides many insights into my situation. She is quite attentive to what I say and provides valuable feedback. I like that she would never tell me what to do, I stead she would challenge me to think about some things I had brought up and helped me find my own solution to the problems I was facing. So grateful to work with her.
