I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of Utah. I earned my degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2007 from the University of Phoenix. I have enjoyed a very well-rounded and eclectic 13 year career counseling others; both young and old, from a wide and diverse population in the community. Most of my client interactions have been in one-on-one sessions but that's not to say that I have not also done many couple 's and family sessions. The issues I work most with are depression, anxiety and stress as well as anger, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders and behavior management. I take a deep abiding interest and respect in all the work I do but with great interest in what I term forensic challenges of "looking for the needle in a haystack" should the circumstances warrant it especially when there are complex issues occurring at the same time. The overarching goal(s) that are important to me and hopefully with you are in helping you attain resolution, peace, understanding and a better perspective of the concerns that bring you to counseling.
I want to create an environment that allows my clients to actively process and explore, find their way, learn about themselves, and grow to be directors of their life. My approach is eclectic based; meaning I combine different therapeutic approaches based on the client's presenting concerns, goals and motivation via the use of cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, brief therapy, mindfulness or solution-focused therapy, among others. The approaches I use give clients the ability to evolve, increase awareness, take the initiative to change, evaluate and commit to making a plan of action.
To help you have the most successful experience in counseling it is important to me that we work together in establishing what your needs are and how I can be of most benefit to you. With that comes responsibility and transparency and the establishing of rapport, trust and communication which can only happen when we work together. I have worked as a counselor for many years and my counseling style is approachable and warm. I enjoy what I do and am genuinely interested in what brings you to therapy. and hope that you would feel comfortable throughout.

As my first therapist, Lani helped me figure out how to figure out my core problems that I wanted to focus on and how to address them. Lani helped me figure out how to take action on the important things in my life so I can accept change and move forward, which I was really struggling with. Lani was understanding and helpful.
Lani is very good at searching out the root of the issue and discovering how multiple facets are connected. She offers a lot of really good and easily accomplished techniques for better functioning.
