My name is Laura King, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) located in Georgia. I received a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Columbus State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from The University of North Georgia.
I have over 10 years of experience in the field of mental health counseling in both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as within the prison system. Throughout my years as a therapist, I have worked with clients who simply need to talk through life events that they have not adjusted to well all the way to clients who have significant and debilitating mental illnesses. Most recently, I worked for over 3 years in a women's prison treating women who have dual-diagnoses (both a substance problem and a mental health problem)
My theoretical orientation is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I focus on helping clients identify how their thought patterns influence their emotions and behaviors. It is important to me that my clients feel supported during therapy and build upon their strengths to make the positive changes they desire.
In recent years I have begun integrating a holistic approach to my counseling practice. I received a certification in Holistic Nutrition in order to provide my clients with increased knowledge of how their daily nutrition impacts their mental health as well as overall wellness.

Laura really listened to me and gave me the skills and tools necessary to work through a variety of life situations. She helped me greatly in my mental health journey.
Great. Very understanding.
Laura is fantastic!
I have been working with Laura for a while now, starting with a tragic death in our extended family that caused quite a bit of anxiety for me as a monther. She helped me work through that and so much more. I enjoy speaking to her about big things and trivial things. She has good insight and is relatable. She validates my feelings even when I know my anxiety is often caused by "first world problems." I often reflect on the things that she has written long after we spoke.
I have been apart of BetterHelp off and on for over a year. Laura is the first counselor who seems to just "get" the kind of support and words that I need in order to feel better and handle the stressful situations I am usually in.
Laura is so kind and so positive. She coaches me through the maze of my thoughts through her one-on-one counseling (which is phenomenal) and also helps guide me by sending regular topics that relate to mental health - points of inquiry to help shine a light on what goes on in my mind. She responds more thoroughly to my messages than any other counselor I've had, and makes me feel heard and cared for. Laura puts in a lot of work towards improving my mental health, and gives me the tools I need to improve on my own.
Laura is a great help in getting myself sorted out with myself. She doesn't let minutes go by in our session with silence. If I become quiet she'll ask me questions to get me to interact - and most times this stirs up a talking point. Even on virtual meetings, she's very personable and approachable. Her written responses are very well written! She knows when we can share humor and when things should not be humorous. I appreciate her, a lot. I hope she knows that!
She has been the best therapist I have ever had and she always takes extra time talking to me if I need it. She’s helped me through so much and it’s really helped.
Laura has been a life saver during a time in my life that's been super stressful in my marriage and finances.
She is very good, actually listens, and has advice with appropriate responses.
Laura is kind, smart, professional. I liked her very much. She was a good fit for me.
Very approachable, understanding counselor. Our sessions feel more like talking to a friend who gives really well-thought out, great advice than like therapy.
Professionalism with the comfortability of feeling like you’re just talked to a trusted, non-biased friend. Thankful for her, her guidance, and her knowledge!
I have only been doing counseling with Laura for a short time but I can already tell a difference in my attitude and how I feel. It helps out a lot to have someone to talk to who not only listens but also advises and guides you and provides exercises to help you.
She's a wonderful therapist. I have found our sessions to be really helpful. The best thing is how validating she is, but how she also helps you find alternate ways of managing your emotions and processing things appropriately.
She’s pretty good!
She is great!!
Laura shows great compassion for me and she always wants me to be a better version of me.
She is very helpful, considerate as well as understanding. I feel comfortable opening up to her and knowing that there is no level of judgement no matter the topic.
Laura was extremely responsive and quick to answer my messages. She was understanding and relatable and offered good advice in a respectful way. I definitely would recommend her as a counselor, and I had a great experience with her.
Laura is really the perfect counselor. She asks the deep questions and makes you able to consider your wants, needs, and emotional reactions without guilt. She ensures you are heard, and checks in often. I am very much enjoying my experience talking with Laura!
She listens to my concerns and always remembers my individual goals and problems. She is wonderful.
Laura King is amazing! She has given me such great advice and resources. I'd recommend her to anyone.
Laura is extremely helpful and receptive to my issues. She always responds in a timely manner and leaves me feeling much better about whatever I’m dealing with.
Laura is wonderful and kind, she listens and lets you feel heard. She always response when I need someone to talk to or vent. She understands how grief and sorrow can hurt someone.
Laura is the real deal. I was originally matched with another counselor and instantly knew that Laura was the one when she clearly took the time to understand my questions / concerns and responded with paragraph after paragraph of amazing, well-thought out, and incredibly helpful advice. She has drastically improved my life after speaking with her for two short months.
Laura is truly a great clinician. She has worked side by side with me for over a year to help me overcome the damage done by infidelity in my relationship, a divorce and child custody issues. She has been patient, willing to help me tackle every issue one at a time and always has been able to work around my very crazy work schedule. Although I don’t utilize Laura on a weekly basis anymore, I still choose to pay for her services on BetterHelp for the couple of times a month I need a listening ear and unbiased guidance. She has helped me to be a better version of myself and has helped me to improve my parenting skills while navigating a high conflict divorce. Thanks Laura!
Practical and helpful
Laura is amazing and is honestly one of the easiest counselors I've ever had the pleasure of working with. I can be open with her, and she gives me honest feedback. It's so easy to have a down to earth conversation with her! I can't wait to continue to work with her.
I love Laura! She listens to me and helps me talk through my problems which in return helps me realize things about myself I didn’t know.
Laura is an incredible listener and truly seems to understand what I am trying to say. I’ve tried therapy many times, this is the only time I have felt that someone truly heard me. I would recommend her a million times over.
Ms. King is exceptional at her job. I have some reservations about online counseling and the ability to make a connection, but texting has worked so well for me because, honestly, I didn't need as much help as often as I thought I did. In reality, having her there to receive my messages is enough to get me through the day.
Laura is always very understanding of my situation and is knowledgeable about a variety of mental health issues. She has helped me a lot.
Laura is wonderful. She is responsive and respectful, but she also connects to this light-heartedness in me that helps me to stay positive. She makes it clear that I am not alone in my struggles and insecurities and has helped me to set goals which have already begun to break down my tangle of cognitive distortions.
I really LIKE Laura! I feel as though she is she is a great "fit" for me, and she is very understanding and compassionate. Messaging with her is like messaging back and forth with a dear friend who really "gets you," truly CARES about you... and gives you good ADVICE! Just knowing that she is there for me makes a big difference in my life. Her presence has helped me a lot already... and I am ever so thankful to have connected with her. :)
She's excellent - very understanding, kind, caring and tries to get to the problem of your situation.
It's very hard to find a good therapist. She's the first therapist who I feel has tried hard to help. She's great.
Laura King is a great counselor who responds very fast and is always supportive. She gets to know your needs and caters to what you are looking for in counseling. She makes me feel super comfortable like I can tell her anything. She is great! Highly recommend!
She's down to earth, gives great practical advice, and her last book suggestion became one of my all time favorite reads. Just natural and easy conversation that leaves me feeling inspired.
When I first started with better help, I was having high anxiety about my job and other things going on in my life. However, however Laura help me work through my issues, and get past my anxiety. It led me to find a better job, with more pay and fewer hours. My anxiety decreased tenfold, and my tension headaches almost completely disappeared. She responds quickly and she's very friendly. I feel like I'm just talking to a friend. It's nice to not have to go somewhere to talk to someone, and I can just text anytime, no matter what or when. I highly recommend!
Thank you Laura!
She's terrific - savvy, insightful, constructive and practical. Answers the specific questions I ask and adds a layer of much needed perspective that helps me understand situations better. Highly recommend her!

Laura is super helpful and responds back in a timely manner. Super respectful. Non judgmental. I'm so happy I've talked to her.
I love her. Genuine and caring.
She’s wonderful! This is a new experience and we are just starting to get into it but Laura is great! I wish I had all day to work with her!
