About me

Hi, I’m Laura Stoops. I am a UK-qualified integrative counsellor (based in Northern Ireland) and a registered member of the BACP and NCPS. My approach is deeply rooted in the belief that every person’s story is unique.

Before becoming a counsellor, I completed a PhD which focused on the art of listening to and understanding human experiences. While my research wasn't in psychology, it taught me the profound value of truly "hearing" someone—a skill that sits at the very heart of my gentle, supportive way of working today.

How we’ll work together

As an integrative therapist, I believe that therapy should be as unique as each person I work with. Rather than following a set path, I focus on weaving together different elements of Person-Centred, CBT, and Psychodynamic therapies. By blending these methods, we can create a supportive experience that is tailored to you—ensuring that the way we work always feels like the best fit for your needs in the moment.

Areas I often help with:

Anxiety & Depression
Relationships & relating to others
Grief, loss, & health worries
Ageing & carer responsibilities
Self-awareness & future goals

A Safe Space for You

I understand that opening up to someone new can feel daunting. My promise to you is a non-judgemental space where you are truly listened to. Together, we will look at what you are facing from your perspective and work toward making things feel a little easier for you.

I look forward to speaking to you.

I've had 4 sessions now with Dr Stoops and she is incredibly supportive, helpful and insightful. She is extremely knowledgeable and uses her expertise to guide me and suggest techniques and mechanisms that could help. I'm greatly enjoying my sessions and feel it has already made such a positive difference!

I’ve been working with Laura for about 8 months now, and I cannot recommend her or therapy enough. Laura has created a space for me to feel heard & understood. Even when discussing difficult or uncomfortable topics, I have always felt supported whilst being challenged in a thoughtful and constructive manner.

Our sessions have helped to develop a better understanding of myself, my emotions, and my patterns. I’ve come away with practical tools that I am applying to situations in everyday life. Family, friends and even work colleagues have noticed real growth during the past 8 months.

Laura has an incredible ability to balance empathy with honesty. Asking insightful questions that encourage reflection without pressure. Every session feels purposeful, and I leave feeling clearer and more equipped to move forward, I will forever be grateful.

Dr. Stoops is a really great therapist, she always listens to everything I have to say and gives me space to speak through how I'm feeling. Judgement free, knows when to challenge my thoughts but also happy to let me just get out everything I'm feeling. Has helped me a lot to process grief and major life changes.
