Laura West
About me
I discovered my natural passion in Psychotherapy and Counselling during my extensive professional nursing career as a Registered General Nurse of 17 years working within the NHS across two different hospitals. I naturally gravitated towards specialist roles within my career to enhance more opportunity to work and support patients and their families requiring emotional and psychological support. Within my more recent years practicing as Macmillan Breast Cancer Specialist Practitioner, supporting patients and their families through their individual treatment journeys. It was within this role my passion for counselling and psychotherapy grew and therefore made the decision to focus on my new career path and completed a diploma in Psychotherapy & Counselling and now an accredited Psychotherapist & Counsellor.
I work with integrated models of therapy and have gained qualifications to utilise psychodynamic concepts within my approach, however I value and consider the value and influences of the humanistic and person centred approach. This was harnessed and developed from my extensive nursing experience.
My aim is to support and work with clients experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges and to naturally and to aid the natural navigation to reach their individual goals of positive and effective change and enhance their well-being. I am committed to provide a safe and therapeutic experience and environment for the safety and wellbeing for all my clients and a member of the National Counselling Society. It's early days for me and Laura, but she seems attentive at picking up queues from me, especially since I find it hard to speak my mind usually. Anxious but happy that I have a 'safe space' to discuss finally.
