About me

Hi, my name is Lisa Hernandez and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker born and raised in a border city in Texas. I am married with two teenagers and a chocolate lab. I strongly value self care and respect and compassion for self and others in order to be an effective therapist. For self care I enjoy hiking, listening to music, meditation, cooking, and reading while enjoying my coffee or tea. Starting therapy can be scary which is why I am dedicated to providing a safe environment where you can feel comfortable and accepted as you share your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement.
I have experience in helping teens, adults, and families with a variety of needs and issues including trauma, anxiety, stress, depression, Bipolar Disorder, addictions, low self-esteem, anger, grief, Borderline Personality Disorder, and women's issues. Much of my clinical experience includes working with the Hispanic population living on the border of Mexico.
I use a collaborative and personalized therapeutic approach that prioritizes respecting cultural factors. I understand the importance of being listened to and respecting individual values and beliefs. I utilize a variety of therapy styles such as Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and other evidence based therapeutic approaches to help my clients address their needs and reach their personal goals. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!

Still early in therapy, however, Lisa has been incredibly structured in explaining what therapy is, expectations of treatment, and of her career experience .I'm very pleased with my therapy!

Lisa was amazing at helping me achieve my therapy goals, even though I had no idea where we’d start. I had imagined therapy in a different way than how our sessions played out. I thought I would vent and almost throw my own pity party and we’d come up with coping ideas based on my misery… what we really did was so much better! I learned a better perspective on my life, stress and anxiety coping skills, and a greater acceptance of myself and moving toward truth and love. In the end, my life is objectively the same as it was. However, I’m experiencing it so much better and happier. I know that tough times will come, and I’ll slip up on using the skills I’ve gained, but I feel much more confident that I will come out the other side just fine. Thank you, Lisa!
