Thank you for visiting my profile page! I’d like to share a little bit about myself, and I know that selecting a counselor is an important decision. I have been a licensed professional counselor since 2001, and I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds with many different challenges and concerns. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from the University of Colorado. I am also pursuing a PhD in psychology at Northcentral University.
Currently, I also enjoy teaching psychology classes at our Community College. Personally, I'm a native of Colorado, and I absolutely love the outdoors and nature. I enjoy hiking, reading, painting and playing with our dog, Luna. Perhaps you can meet her online! I also love to travel with my husband.
My philosophy in counseling is to meet my clients where they are and discover the strengths they have to help them make the changes they want to make. In my experience, people come to counseling because something needs to change, and maybe they're feeling stuck. They may want to change how they feel, how they behave, or how they think about things. I take a compassionate and practical approach to counseling, which enables clients to see results quickly. I believe that what happens between sessions is as important as what happens in sessions, and I give clients tools to put into practice right away. I view the counseling relationship as a collaboration with you, and YOU are the expert in your life.
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves”. Viktor Frankl
My specialties and experience include work with clients on decreasing depression and anxiety and improving self-esteem and confidence. I have also worked successfully with many clients to change habits and behaviors that are not serving them. This includes substance use disorders and other addictions (e.g. gambling, eating, shopping, etc.). I also have experience working with first responders (law enforcement, fire, and paramedics) and their families.
Often, relationships are also part of the reason for seeking counseling, and I have specialized training and experience in helping people communicate more effectively, resolve conflicts, and become more assertive, personally, and professionally. Finally, my work with clients is often during times of grief and loss or transition in their lives, and I help people see the opportunities in change, even when the change is unwelcome or even scary.
My Approach: I have training and experience in a variety of approaches to work with clients. I believe that counseling interventions should be solidly grounded in research. I like to use these approaches:
• Cognitive -Behavioral Therapy
• Dialectical Behavior Therapy
• Solution Focused Therapy
• Mindfulness-Based Interventions
• Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Seeking help takes courage and I commend you for taking this step! I would be honored to work with you as you take the next steps in your journey!

I also have experience in LGBT, Relationship issues, Family conflicts, Trauma and abuse, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Eating disorders, Parenting issues, Anger management, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Coaching, Compassion fatigue, ADHD

I've been working with Lisa for a few weeks now and she has exceeded my expectations. She has helped me identify the next phases of my development without being pushy or telling me what to think. I am very much enjoying this self-discovery process, thanks to Lisa.
Lisa is engaging right away and comfortable to work with. Very good communicator and truly compassionate.
Lisa has been a wonderful counselor for me. She’s been very understanding and completely non-judgmental. Having someone like Lisa to talk to is so helpful!
Lisa has helped me identify the things I need to work on so I can improve my communication skills. She listened to me and offered insights that led me to explore things about myself that have to do with my nature and personality. And that has made me feel more accepting of myself and more willing to improve on my weaknesses.
Lisa and I have only been working with each other for a couple of weeks now and due to my current situation I have not been able to communicate as frequently as I would like.
That being said, I have full confidence in Lisa's ability to help me with my many and complicated issues. She has kept in contact with me and and has checked in on me even when I haven't written her. That simple fact makes a big difference to me. Her years of experience are a huge plus. She been remarkable in her response. It seems as though she likes to gather as much information about you and what's going on, in order to plan a perfect and successful counter to them.
I would definitely recommend Lisa's help to anyone who needs genuine help.
I very much appreciate Lisa’s time!
Lisa understands and mentions helpful tips that have helped me a lot with controlling my emotions. I’ve benefited a lot, from starting to go out more and starting old hobbies again. Thank you Lisa!
Lisa is such a friendly personality. She does not come across as condescending, judgmental, or negative at all. Very fluid in how she/we handle situations!
Lisa takes the time to get to know me and my concerns. She definitely listens to me and shows genuine care for me and my growth. She validates my feelings and wants to know where I feel I need to go from "here". Most importantly to me, I greatly appreciate the specific things she gives me to work on.
