About me

Hi! My name is Lorraine Hanson, but most people call me Lori. I am an experienced counselor. As a lifelong Ohioan, I have lived and worked in rural, inner-city, small town, and suburban areas from the Ohio River to Lake Erie. I have been a counselor for nearly 20 years, and am currently a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Over the years, my work as a counselor/psychotherapist has allowed me the privilege of working with wonderfully diverse people who wanted to grow and improve personally, but ran into a wide variety of challenges and concerns.

I specialize in helping people create happier, more satisfying lives. Over the years, I have studied all therapy traditions and have observed which ones are most effective. My approach begins with a client-centered belief system where I respect you unconditionally as the expert on your own life. I then offer you the opportunity to learn skills and strategies that will last a life time! These will empower you to: (1) solve problems, (2) manage symptoms (such as anxiety), (3) overcome obstacles to improve functioning or performance, and (4) increase happiness and life satisfaction. All this is possible if you put your mind to it!

While this platform is not for those in crisis, we can certainly examine difficult life events of the past (distant or recent) in order to move forward. I use my specialized training in trauma-focused therapy to assist people in examining and processing traumatic or tragic events. Persons who have suffered as victims of crime, serious accidents or natural or man-made disasters often need help to recover. I also help people who are suffering from compassion fatigue or burnout including first responders, medical/mental health professionals, professional carers and family caregivers including Moms. Family members and friends of a person with Traumatic Brain Injury often need support, too.

I meet all clients with compassion, good humor, respect and hope, infusing therapy with elements of Positive Psychology and Mindfulness. As an experienced counselor, I have come to understand that you have the ability to heal, grow, move forward and thrive. All you have to do is put your MIND to it!
