About me

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist licensed in Hawaii with over 3 years of experience working as a psychotherapist and life coach. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting and couples problems, and especially experienced in substance use disorders with dual diagnosis. I was also a former Registered Behavior Technician for ten years working with children with special needs.

My style in therapy is genuine, warm and client-oriented. I work within my ethical boundaries. I am culturally sensitive. My approach is ecclectic where I use various interventions from Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Gottman Method for couples. I adapt my interventions according to my clients' goals and needs.

I applaud you for reaching out for help. Allow me to be alongside your journey to be well as a whole person.

I look forward to working with you!

Maita is a very knowledgeable and kind therapist. I really appreciated her listening skills and gentle guidence during our sessions. She also provided "homework" (optional!) that I could use during the week to help me understand my situation. I highly recommend her.

I am grateful for Maita Marks' work with me. I have a lot of emotionally challenging history and we have only a short time to work together. So we've been able to quickly narrow down to what it is I do need now and work on that. This has been just right because I feel supported and that has helped me get through an otherwise really tough time. Soon I'll be able to go back to the counselor I am accustomed to and then I can go back to some of that historical work as is appropriate.
