About me

I am a licensed professional counselor and have worked in and with various populations and settings of the mental health field. I describe my treatment approach client
directive as I believe people are in control of their own lives. I prefer to use and focus on trans-theoretical models of solution focus behavioral therapy, cognitive recovery oriented therapy, motivational interviewing, and embracing change therapy. I have a passion to help individuals who are ready to get back to themselves as I believe everyone has the capacity to find their own truth, challenge negative belief systems, and learn more about their capabilities. My specialities range in treating individuals who have difficulty with cultural and gender identity challenges, adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, neurodevelopmental needs, and life stage changes.

I look forward to taking that next step with you!

Marissa is an incredible listener and has a joyful and understanding presence. I would not be as far along in my healing journey if it wasn’t for our sessions! You can expect her to be thoughtful and affirming during your sessions, and she will also help guide you back on track with your goals!

Marissa listens to my primary concerns and tries to understand the bigger picture of my issues, too. This really helps us come up with resolutions or plans to get there. I highly recommend Marissa!

Marissa Herrera helped me understand that the emotions I felt were okay. I am 20 years old and going through major life changes. Marissa helped me work through the causes of why I felt conditioned to hold myself back. She is also the first therapist I’ve ever had. She’s been extremely helpful through this whole experience, and I hope she can help others in the future.
