About me

I am a licensed clinical social worker/licensed psychotherapist with 31 years of experience. During the course of my career I have worked to help individuals clients address issues that are standing in the way of them becoming a better version of themselves. I am licensed in the states of Florida and North Carolina. My experience as a psychotherapist has been with people of all ages, a broad range of issues and diverse cultural, ethnic, sexual orientation and spiritual backgrounds. My areas of focus are: helping the individual manage their response to stress in a healthier manner so the stress does not manage the individual, providing education and skills to cope more effectively with anxiety and/or depression, dealing with addictive behaviors, relationship issues, increasing personal empowerment over the consequences of trauma and abuse, developing an understanding of the impact of early life experiences on personal development and impact in present day situations, and improving self esteem/self confidence and self worth.

The principles that guide my work as a psychotherapist are as follow:
1) Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, dignity and compassion.
2) Seeking therapy is one of he most courageous, empowering, and healing choices one can make.
3) Helping the individual to understand, heal, and overcome negative life experiences from the past,
4) It is the therapist's responsibility to earn the individual's trust during the course of the therapeutic relationship.
5) Mutual respect and collaboration between the therapist and the individual seeking therapy make it possible for positive change to happen.
6) When it comes to the therapy approach, "One size does not fit all." There is no one specific approach that is effective for everyone. Therapy is tailored to meet each person's unique style to enhance the likelihood of positive results.

Congratulations on taking this very brave and important first step on the road to a better you!

while I have only been meeting with her for a couple of weeks, maritza is an incredible therapist, very knowledgeable, and knows how to make me feel very comfortable talking about the uncomfortable. I couldn’t recommend her more.

Maritza is the best therapist I’ve ever worked with, and I’ve worked with quite a few over the years. She listens, understands, and supports me, and her direct, no-nonsense approach has been exactly what I’ve needed. The amount of change she’s helped me make in less than a year feels like years’ worth of progress. Saying I appreciate her doesn’t even come close.

I’ve been working with Maritza for several months, and I can honestly say that working with her has made a meaningful difference in my life. She creates a space that feels calm, safe, and genuinely supportive.

What stood out most to me was her ability to help untangle patterns I didn’t realize were there and to give me tools to understand myself with more clarity and compassion. I never felt judged, rushed, or pushed; instead, I felt guided in a way that honored my pace and my needs.

Because of her help, I feel steadier, more grounded, and more capable of moving forward. I’m deeply grateful for the work we did together and would recommend her to anyone looking for a therapist who is thoughtful, insightful, and genuinely invested in her clients’ growth with the years of experience to back it up.
