Mary Helen Kellam, LPC
About me
Hello...It can take courage to reach out for support, and I am glad you that are...I have approximately five years of experience in private practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor,. The range of issues that I can assist you with includes: emotional difficulties (including but not limited to anxiety and depression), relationship problems, issues related to grief and loss, life transition issues, self esteem, and family difficulties. When life presents us with challenges such as these, it can help to know that you are not alone. As a counselor I consider it a privilege to help you through your journey.
My approach is eclectic as far as therapeutic interventions. I use a Cognitive Behavioral approach while incorporating mindfulness principles. Cognitive Behavioral approaches emphasize the power of ones thoughts on our emotions and actions. Mindfulness stresses focusing on the present while regulating one's emotions.
I am informed in the practice Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) which is a well respected approach in the mental health field that emphasizes the concept of mindfulness. DBT emphasizes a host of skills that keep you in the present moment and helps in the area of emotion regulation.
I am dedicated to helping my clients make meaning of life's challenges with a caring and empowering approach.
