Mary Jo Greenwood

(MSW, LCSW)

About Me

I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Mental Health Therapist for 17 years. I earned my masters in social work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2002. Since I live in a rural area with little access to mental health services; I have had the opportunity to work with all populations. I have been the most effective in assisting those who experience depression, anxiety (including related diagnoses like OCD and sleep disorders) , and relationship problems (intimate relationships, family issues, and parenting). I view all my practice through the lens of trauma-informed care and consider the whole person; not just individual symptoms. My approach is eclectic and client-driven. I will assist you in formulating a treatment plan that will be ever adapting to your current needs.

I am licensed in Wyoming where I reside, and Nevada for my annual volunteer work at Burning Man. I have attended the event for 9 years and I volunteer on the Crisis Intervention Team. I take three generations of my family. The annual experience combines three of my favorite things: camping, family, and artistic expression. My friends describe me as "The most approachable person in the room." I know how hard is it to seek support and I never make people feel judged or minimize their experiences. Helping people help themselves is my passion. I like the Better Help platform because people can often feel stuck and unable to take the multiple steps needed to seek counseling in a traditional office setting.

I am looking forward to assisting you in meeting your potential and helping improve your daily quality of life! You have taken the first step. Let's get started.

We are still in the beginning stages so she lets me talk a lot and guides the conversion questions. She gives me things to look up or homework to apply throughout the week that I don't see her which I really like.

I’ve always been incredibly nervous and reluctant to do counseling so I wasn’t quite sure of what to expect with starting this. Mary Jo has made me feel extremely comfortable and safe. She has brought me new insight and solid advice on many different situations. I feel empowered to overcome any issues with having her to talk to. I’m very grateful to have her as my counselor. BetterHelp has been amazing and I’m so happy I started. ❤️

I adore Mary Jo. I was nervous to start therapy but she listened to me like a friend and helped me understand why I think the way I do rather than make me feel like I was wrong for thinking that way. I wasn’t sure that therapy would be beneficial for me because I didn’t know what my goal was. After one session with her, I felt validated and hopeful.
