Mary Ngugi, LCMFT
About me
My diverse personal and professional background has enriched me and my approach to helping work. In the last 15 years I have worked with incarcerated males in Kamiti Prison in Kenya, people navigating struggles with addiction and alcoholism in Surrey, BC, Canada; more recently, families with adults with developmental disabilities in Washington D.C. I have been licensed in Maryland for a little over two years. Since then, I have worked with individuals, children and families with different needs such as overcoming the impact of trauma or help with restoration of confidence and control over various problems.
In an age that mostly feels like there is increase in demand for your attention, it can feel overwhelming sometimes. I strive to create a space where all that external noise is shut out and your own voice is amplified. In that space, there is opportunity for a process of expression, reflection and insight; out of that process there is potential for clarity, change and progress. My theoretical approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, Narrative and Family Systems. Cultural considerations are a significant part of the process too. Above all, I do my best to create an aura of warmth and acceptance. I'm here to support and walk alongside you during this phase of your journey.
