About me

Thank you for stopping by! My name is Katie Romley and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor licensed in California with over 10 years of experience working with clients and their families. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, and self-worth and self-concept issues. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma, abuse, whether this was an isolated event or a long-term experience.

My therapy style is warm and interactive. I believe the client is the expert in their life and I am a partner and a witness to change. I truly enjoy supporting people in their growth and development. I have taught counseling courses at the masters-level and in both this work and in my therapy work, I have enjoyed watching growth and transformation in others. I love pointing out the small wins and victories to clients, and being able to recognize the big moments too. Sometimes when we have that person cheering us on, we can do so much more than we ever thought possible. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach in primarily client-centered, though my work is also informed by Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy. I will tailor our treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

My bachelor's degree is in Cultural Anthropology from Santa Clara University. I earned my master's degree in Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University. After each of these degrees I received training in specialties related to education, human communication and therapy. I am also a trained mediator.

I look forward to working with you!

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Mary (Katie) Romley. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

I've been working with Katie for just a few weeks, but already she's helped me make progress in my journey to self-understanding and self-care. Her energy is incredibly positive and kind, but with a dose of humor that suits me perfectly. This is my first experience with BetterHelp and I've already recommended it to several friends. Katie and I have sent messages, talked over the phone, and video chatted and all have worked well for my needs, thanks to Katie's compassion and regular availability.

Mary helped me through a difficult work situation that had spilled over into my personal life. She listened to me and helped me feel heard in a situation I felt very powerless and voiceless. She helped me come to a place of clarity. She is a kind and thoughtful therapist who brings a sense of calm to her sessions. She is also very responsive and able to provide additional resources to help continue the work after the sessions. I would highly recommend working with Mary.

Katie Romley is humble, gentle, flexible, highly intelligent, highly intuitive, highly empathic, and kind. We totally clicked right away. I felt deeply nurtured and cared for while we worked together on telling my story. To the extent that I am capable of feeling understood (as there are still things I don’t fully understand about myself and I’m a work in progress) Katie provided that for me. It was a blessing to find her.
