I am a licensed Counselor and Counselor Supervisor in the states of Texas and Georgia with over 15 years of counseling and coaching experience . Additionally, I am certified as a National Board Certified counselor and a Board Certified Tele-Mental Health Provider. I have experience working with diverse individuals with a wide range of concerns including:
Goal setting and positive motivation,
Disability and aging,
Career and academic transitions,
Women and self esteem
My counseling style is nonjudgmental and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I favor a relationship where we both contribute. I am solution oriented, and operate from a coaching model, which requires your direction, discovery, and input for best results. I like to think of our work together as a partnership that is focused on positive outcomes based on your individual needs.
It is important that I get to know you! I hope you will consider scheduling "live sessions" (phone, video, or text chat) early on in the process.
I offer weekday appointments only.
Often I will ask questions or utilize links to web sites, videos, handouts, or worksheets to complete. The more input I get from you, the more I can understand your situations and your concerns.
I will also help you develop goals, usually during the 2nd week, and you will determine your progress towards meeting these goals. They can be mental health goals, career goals, or personal goals. This is your process, and I will support you and your choices in making goals and working towards meeting them through directed and specific tools and techniques.
You are currently preparing to take the first step toward better outcomes, and I am here to provide tools to support and empower you to make positive change.
I look forward to working with you!

Mary is wonderful. She listens and asks the right questions to get me to actually think about how I feel and how I'm processing what I'm going through, and what's important to me. Since signing up for counseling, I have found myself to be much more emotionally healthy and able to function better, with a clearer sense of what's important to me and how I feel about the things that happen in my life.
Mary listens and is thoughtful in her feedback. She understands my patterns of thought even if it is hard for me to explain some of the stuff going on in my head. She encourages me to take care of myself and conveys her confidence in me being able to make meaningful change in my own life.

Mary supported me through a rough patch when I was struggling with lots of change. She gave me concrete suggestions I can use in daily life. She's helped me identify the things that work for me, and encouraged me not to get stuck in the day to day stuff, to keep an eye on long term goals. That makes the daily aggravations easier to cope with. Mary has a big heart. I highly recommend her.
We’ve only had two sessions, but I’m hopeful and feel that Mary Selby will be able to help me arrive at a place of comfort and stability. I’m looking forward to it.
She's completely helpful, she is understanding and has a lot of knowledge to contribute to the conversation. She knows that counseling isn't just a way to vent, but it is a way to help yourself become better. She has great advice to provide if you're willing to listen.
I was not sure how all this would work and was not comfortable with signing up with online counselor. I went ahead and took the step because I knew I needed help. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Mary. I was very comfortable with her right away. She sent me articles and things to look up. She also checks in with me. I find this is much better than going to a counselors office . Mary is so kind. If you are needing help take the first step!
Mary is a great listener and is able to zero in on exactly what's not working and offer up great ideas on how to move forward. She helped me see through my reluctance to move forward in a situation I had been dealing with for awhile. She continued to stay in touch and offer resources that helped. I would highly recommend Mary. She's non-judgmental, can see both sides, and has a great deal of wisdom. If you're struggling with an issue, she would be someone I would recommend to anyone.
I came to BetterHelp because I didn't know what to do on my own, but I was also skeptical of how talking to someone would help me. Within just a few conversations, Mary Selby helped me take control of my anxiety and negativity. I have made many positive changes in my life that I would not have imagined just a few months ago.
Mary is kind and patient, even when I'm in the middle of feeling completely lost. It is so nice to feel like no matter what she has my back!
