About Me
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas and have been in the field for 10+ years. I have never failed to be fascinated with people, with their stories, and with their ability to overcome their circumstances and find the peace they desire. I was an art teacher in high school for many years. That opportunity presented me with experience in learning about the heart of a young person. I worked in several churches as a mentor and learned the need for skills people lacked in order to overcome their past and move forward into a healthy life. As a counselor, I saw the amazing struggles that people are grappling with as they tried to tackle each day. I believe that a counselor can be the helper who will walk along side of a person on their journey to healing.
I completed my Masters in counseling at the Houston Graduate School of Theology, then went on to Texas A&M Corpus Christi to complete a Ph.D. I have also extended my studies to include many techniques for working with trauma/PTSD, personality disorders, grief, disassociation, depression, OCD, transition issues, and anxiety. I have been involved with many survivors of childhood abuse, those struggling with life issues in their relationships, their workplace, and in society in general. Fear, anger, and frustration are often crippling to a healthy, productive life.
I like to work with people in a person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and in dialectic behavioral therapy. These therapies all offer a gentle and caring approach. They will allow you to be open in a safe environment and the ability to explore what will best work for you, the individual.
I consider the people I’ve talked with and walked with in this journey of life to be among the strongest people on earth. They are willing to step out of their problems and seek a better, healthier life. It’s hard work, but it is worth it.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Mary Walker. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
I have been working with Dr. Walker weekly for about eight months now and I can’t believe how far I’ve come. My issues were mostly with family dynamics, and I can honestly say that she excels in this department. Her kindness really shines through. She is very good at phrasing things in ways that challenges my perceptions and helps me land on changes that need to be made. She also gave me exact tools and strategies to help me feel more positive about myself and my situation. I am forever grateful!
Dr walker has has been very helpful and has made me see things in a different light, I look forward to talking to her when we have our session, I love that she is a Christian, I would recommend her highly to anyone! So glad she was recommended for me! Thank you!
She is the most patient and kind listener. Always ready with advice when needed.
Would always want her for my therapist.
Dr. Walker is amazing. She often suggests new strategies for coping and self- improvement I would never think of by myself. They're easy and fun to implement.
Dr. Walker is warm and kind while also being insightful and attentive. She gently challenges me where I need it and consistently discerns what my greatest need is for each session. I highly recommend this wise, compassionate woman as a therapist.
She inspires trust and listens carefully to your concerns.......very skilled and professional, a unique lady.
Dr. Walker has been pivotal in helping me through this chaotic, chapter in parenting older children. I highly recommend her expertise and conflict resolutions. I can't wait to "unpack" my own childhood experiences. I absolutely appreciate her so much.
After only a few sessions, i would say that Dr. Walker is extremely personable and that she understands the reasons why i signed up for talk therapy. Her life experience makes her a good therapist for people like me who are facing decisions involving growing older, and her religious background may also come in handy when we address questions of meaning and spirituality. Our first sessions have focused on teasing apart issues that need to be addressed.
I have been seeing Mary for 2 months now, and I can't say how much I look forward to sitting down and talking to her. She is open, accepting and calming...I feel like I can tell her anything, every time she talks me through my issues without judgement, but so much wisdom. I ALWAYS feel great after our sessions.
Dr. Walker listens and understands my needs in a way that gives me new insights. She is also able to deliver actionable suggestions that I have used to address my concerns.
