Matthew Benstead
About me
I am a registered Counsellor with the BACP, I achieved this qualification through my MSc Counselling at the University of Lincoln, to do this I gained over 100 hours of practice working with the NHS to provide treatment for Depression and Anxiety, however I also worked with other issues such as existential crisis, relationship troubles, self-harm, past trauma, anger management, sexual abuse and grief. I worked with a range of people aged 18+ from different backgrounds.
I practice person centred therapy meaning my focus is on treating all clients as individuals and tailoring the treatment to suit them. I believe I can help by allowing clients a safe space where they feel accepted, in doing this I can help to support clients as we collective breakdown their concerns allowing them to have a greater understanding of what is affecting them and from there we can work together to resolve those issues.
Taking the first steps to seek help is often one of the more difficult parts of therapy and I believe my approach helps to alleviate this worry by normalising the idea of getting support and by creating an environment that is non-judgemental and filled with compassion and empathy.
