About Me

I am a Licensed Masters Social Worker in the state of Michigan. I have experience working with adults, college age students, and adolescents. Clinical issues that I have the most experience in include depression, trauma, grief, anxiety, overeating, relationship issues, self esteem issues, obsessive and compulsive behaviors, and stress management.

A main focus in my treatment is establishing a therapeutic alliance with the client. I believe having a good connection helps facilitate effective counseling and provides the best outcomes. In therapy, I am supportive, compassionate, and am present with individuals both in times of struggle as well as times of achievement and progress. I make sure to meet each individual where they are at and actively listen to and respect where they would like to see themselves in the future with the help of therapy.

Working collaboratively with individuals on their treatment goals is a priority throughout treatment and I encourage open communication regarding what therapeutic techniques and approaches work best for the person to ensure the best therapeutic experience.

My counseling style combines strength-based, cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused approaches to help individuals achieve their therapeutic goals. Identifying one's strengths and the coping skills that can be used to help work through various issues is an important part of my therapy approach.

I truly value each individual therapeutic relationship and fully empathize with the different emotions a client may experience throughout treatment. I believe that each individual has the ability to overcome struggles but that sometimes having additional support in the form of therapy can help one to better identify and recognize the coping skills and strengths they already possess.

You have taken the first step in creating a healthier, happier you and I would be honored to support you in that journey!

Been working with Melissa for months now, and although I'm having some ongoing battles, she's made me feel confident in other treatment avenues and helping me build confidence to self-advocate in these and has been extremely helpful with helping work out some things I wouldn't have thought about. Thank you so much.

I have worked with Melissa for a few months now and I wouldn’t have got through self-isolation without her. I suffer from Bulimia and anxiety. And I felt there was no judgment whatsoever from Melissa, we built a very safe space to talk openly and we went through lots of stratified to try and tackle the above. Although I am no longer with Melissa due to financial reasons I would 100% recommend her for anyone else!

Great so far!

Melissa has been absolutely wonderful to work with. She's helped me to realize where some of my mental health issues and my insecurities come from, and she actively works on coping strategies with me. Most of the time, I can handle what's going on around me, but when I'm in crisis or something goes wrong, I can really spin out and focus on the negative. I'm also terrible for catastrophic thinking and she's really helped me to figure out the costs of these behaviors if I can't find ways to cope. I think I still have a far way to go on getting a better handle on my mental health, but Melissa has already helped me come such a long way from where I had started. She's empathetic, but she also gives it to you straight when you need to hear something difficult. She has a great approach between helping you move past your demons and letting go of things, but also in supporting you along the way even when you have setbacks or make mistakes. I'm so glad I met her.

Melissa was so kind and gentle through our counseling. She was full of ideas to help but never took away my agency in directing our sessions. She’s excellent!

Melissa dove right in when I reached out for help. She came to our first chat with recommendations, listened to my story and resolved to work through them with me. So far I’m very happy with her!
