About me

Hi! My name is Melissa Morrison, and I am a licensed therapist in North Carolina. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. I graduated from Liberty University with a master’s degree in professional counseling and I am currently pursuing a PhD in counselor education and supervision with a focus in trauma.

I am licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, and I am a National Certified Counselor. I currently work full-time as an intensive in-home therapist providing Family Centered Treatment. I specialize in working with individuals facing a crisis situation or who have experienced trauma. I have worked in a variety of mental health settings including private practice, school-based therapy, group therapy, and community mental health. In my practice, I have worked with clients ranging from age 3 to adults. I have worked with clients with a wide range of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, family issues, parenting problems, ADHD, behavior issues, foster care, juvenile justice, legal issues, etc.

My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, trauma-informed, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy. I aim to provide a safe and supportive environment in which we can collaborate and work at your own individual pace in order to reach your therapeutic goals. Some techniques commonly used are, journaling, modeling, guided imagery, reality therapy, Gestalt empty chair, etc. I will focus on identifying and implementing positive and healthy coping skills that are realistic. I will also work with you to accommodate your specific needs and meet you where you are at, while providing encouragement and support. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you!

Melissa is incredible. She makes me feel seen and validated and offers good insight. I’m so grateful that I was paired with her; it’s almost like talking to an old friend who doesn’t judge you.

Melissa Morrison is currently my therapist and she has been such an immense help in a short amount of time. To say I’ve felt the growth is an understatement as I’ve seen the growth within my own life and this journey is only the beginning. Excited for what the future holds even more so now!
