About me

About Me
I am an American-trained Licensed Psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families create meaningful, lasting change. I earned my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas, a CACREP-accredited program, giving me a rigorous, evidence-based foundation in clinical practice. I previously held active licenses as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas and California, which are now inactive. I am in the process of reactivating my Texas Licensed Professional Counselor license and applying for licensure in Oregon, USA.

Although I am an Accredited Psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I am not a UK-trained counselor. My clinical approach is distinctly American, structured, evidence-based, and results-oriented. I focus on helping clients understand themselves, develop practical tools, and apply strategies to build confidence, self-worth, and healthier relationships.

My approach is integrative and flexible. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment and Inner Child work, Narrative and Jungian concepts, Transgenerational therapy, and trauma-informed care. Each client’s plan is tailored to their goals, background, and needs.

I specialize in trauma and abuse recovery, depression, grief and loss, ADHD and neurodiversity, relationship and family challenges, self-worth and identity issues, major life transitions, and LGBTQ clients and alternative relationship structures. I do not work with borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, addiction, anger management, or anxiety. Clients often describe me as direct, compassionate, and structured, helping them gain both understanding and practical progress.

Clinical Fit:
Before we begin, I like to review the basics of your case and goals. This may include one or two initial sessions to ensure I am the right clinical fit for your needs and can responsibly support your therapy journey. This approach aligns with ethical guidelines in both the United States (American Counseling Association Code of Ethics) and the United Kingdom (BACP Ethical Framework), which recommend that therapists assess client needs, scope of practice, and suitability before entering into a therapeutic relationship. If I believe another therapist, specialist, or service would better meet your needs, I will discuss appropriate referrals.

Teletherapy:
I provide therapy exclusively online through video, and occasionally by phone once a therapeutic relationship is established. I do not provide therapy via messaging, as real-time interaction is essential for effective, collaborative work. I ask all new clients to begin with video sessions so we can build connection, clarity, and focus from the start.

If you are looking for an experienced American psychotherapist who combines structure, empathy, and practical methods to help you create lasting change, I would be honored to work with you.

Reminder:
Lastly, BetterHelp (or a specialty site) is not appropriate if you are in crisis or in immediate need of support. In crises, please call 999 or local emergency (A&E) services.

Michael is very understanding and considerate. Before subscribing I had doubts about therapy, but after being with him for a while now, I'm glad i did.

I honestly can’t recommend Michael highly enough. He is an exceptional therapist who combines a firm, honest approach with genuine care for your wellbeing. What really sets him apart is how down-to-earth and real he is — he builds a strong rapport with you and creates a space where you feel completely comfortable being yourself.

Michael isn’t a “yes-man.” If you’ve made mistakes or need to hear something difficult, he will tell you — clearly, constructively, and always with your best interests at heart. That level of honesty has been incredibly valuable for my growth.

He is extremely attentive, truly listens, and allows you to speak your mind freely without judgment. You feel heard, supported, and challenged in exactly the right balance. Every session feels purposeful and meaningful.

I’m genuinely very happy with Michael as my therapist, and I’m extremely grateful for the impact he’s had on me. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for a therapist who is authentic, insightful, and deeply committed to helping their clients improve their lives.
