About me

Hello, my name is Michelle (she/her) and I own and run Athena Counselling (www.athenacounselling.com). I am an integrative counsellor that also specialises in gaming and geek therapy.
If you’re on this website, I’m guessing life is a bit much at the moment? Whether it’s anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, critical self-talk, imposter syndrome or something else, I might be able to help you. I can offer a caring, down to earth, non-judgemental space in which we can work together to explore the what’s and why’s of your current issues.

I trained on and off for about ten years to become a counsellor, taking breaks between courses to work in different areas, however counselling is where my heart is, helping others to make sense of their worlds and now this is my main focus. It was during my studies that I discovered I was able to combine my desire to help people with my love for gaming and geekery and after completing my diploma i have been working on developing my style of 'geek therapy' and putting together workshops to train other counsellors (still a work in progress!)

Michelle is extremely understanding and very easy to talk to, I always feel supported and my needs and goals met. There’s always a goal at the start of each session and problem solving technique is incorporated , to allow you to feel like you can take control and navigate your feelings smoothly. Amazing work :)

Michelle made me feel safe and supported. I started therapy due to feelings of shame but I felt completely comfortable telling her about things I had done. She also gave me some useful knowledge of theories and frameworks I can take forward in my life. Thank you Michelle.
