Neill Hughes, BACP
About me
I am an Accredited and registered Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioral Therapist under the BACP British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy professions (reg no. 267042 ). I have over 4 year experience of working in private practice and public clinics working with a wide range of diagnosed disorders and difficult life experiences.
Whilst I have worked with a number of disorder ranging from bereavement to depression, one of my main focus areas is working with anxiety and anxious conditions such as emotional dysregulation , I also have experience working with high functioning Autism (ASC). My background is working with trauma, attachment disorders and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), I have also supported many people with low mood and depression and helping them find their intrinsic motivation in life and relationships.
I work in a person-centred way, helping the client to formulate goals & understand how to work through their difficulties together. I believe the relationship is paramount in all therapy sessions and you can expect a safe, professional and non-judgmental environment.
I hold a first class degree in BA Hons in Person-Centred counselling and psychotherapy, (Middlesex University) and went onto receive an A in both my certificate and Diploma in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (accredited through the University of the West of Scotland UWS). I have completed training in Motivational Interviewing at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust.
Due to my background in working with trauma I completed training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills (DBT) and training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (TF-CBT) throught the Anna Frued Center.
Most recently I completed the training in Mentalization Based Therapy for families (MBT-F)(Anna Frued centre) and some basic training in Schema Therapy (Schema Therapy Wales).
It can be a very difficult decision for some clients to seek support but often this can be life changing and I look forward to supporting on this journey.

Reviews

I have been seeing Niell for the past 5 months and I have had an incredibly positive experience. His approach to therapy has been incredibly powerful for my mindset and personal growth. Over the years, I have worked with many therapists, but Niell has stood out as someone who truly understands how to help me and his clients.
Niell has a unique ability to ask questions that really get to the heart of my anxieties and fears. Through his guidance, I have learned how to confidently externalise my thoughts and feelings with him, as well as with my family, friends, and loved ones. This has been a huge step forward for me in my personal growth journey.
Niell's approach is non-judgmental and supportive, which has made me feel safe and comfortable opening up to him. He has given me the tools and strategies to move forward with confidence, and I feel like I have made significant progress thanks to his help.
Overall, I highly recommend Niell as a therapist. He has been an incredible support for me, and I am grateful for the progress I have made under his guidance.
