About Me
Hi my name is Nora Durand, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 5 years of experience in the state of Florida and New York. I am a Florida native who moved to New York a few years ago. I have a Master in Mental Health Counseling and a certificate in Child and Adolescent Studies. I have worked in child welfare as an advocate and counselor to youth in foster care from there I became a crisis counselor for Hurricane Sandy Victims, to then run a crisis respite center for individuals with what we call “severe mental illness” where we provided a peer environment in which individual’s experiencing psychosis but did not rise to the level of hospitalization could have a place to stay away from their triggering environment, and currently I work with victims of crimes.
I shared so much detail as to my prior work experience because it speaks to the way I work with individuals. I believe in meeting every person where they are at and providing a compassionate non-judgmental space to process and explore their individual reality. My approach is a combination of Intentional Peer Support, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Need Adaptive Treatment model. I do my best to be creative with the therapy I provide and tailor it to the individual that I am working with.
I am so happy that you have taken this step to work on your emotional and mental health and look forward to the opportunity to be a support alongside you in this journey.

Reviews
I enjoy Nora professionalism. She has a pleasant demeanor and is very strength base. counseling has always been uncomfortable for me but it does not feel like that working with Nora.
So it’s kinda early for a review but, I really like Nora, she does everything really well, she messages me back quickly (for my schedule) she always helps or steers me in a positive direction, she asks great questions that helps you focus and get you to say what you actually want/need to say. She makes you feel comfortable like and old friend, so I’d recommend anyone to talk to her.
She’s an excellent counselor who challenges me and is never afraid to ask the uncomfortable questions that I never had asked myself.
Nora has been a game changer for me. She was my first counselor on here and have been with her ever since. She helps guide and navigate my thoughts. Small progress has created major wins for me in a challenging year. I owe it to her.
Very Refreshing.
Nora has helped me immensely. I love the fact that her counseling is faith based. Thanks for your professionalism and attentiveness.
shes amazing. I love our Counselor- patient relationship.
I was matched with my counselors before this pandemic not understanding why i felt i needed counseling, and even then she was a very big help. I’m excited to really get started again with these sessions
She is amazing at what she does. With her help I have grown tremendously.
I really enjoy speaking with Nora. I was very unsure about speaking with a counselor about my feelings. However, Nora makes me feel comfortable and I do not feel like am being judged. She also assigns homework assignments which really helps me to see and understand things that I am going through. I am happy that I made the decision to join betterhelp.
I was pleasantly surprised how quickly she was able to understand my problem, even though I am from a very unique background, which was my main concern when I signed up.
Listens well, asked the right questions, and reads between the lines.
L. Nora Durand has been an incredible support system and very logical. She helps point out parts of situations that I need to think through. I have been through a lot of counseling and she has been the best so far. Thank you.
Working with Nora has been life changing for me. When I started working with her last year, I was broken from the sudden and abrupt loss of an ex. I was filled with regret, unrealized grief and pain that I didn't feel like there was an end to. She listened to me, asked me the right questions and it was even more impactful to me because she is also a Christian. Her values and unwavering faith shows in the way that she counsels and it is never pushy or condescending. Without her help, I don't think I would be as present in my life as I am or have such a better handle on life, making it successfully through the stages of grief, fully invested in the present and the well being of my family. For the first time in my life, I am truly experiencing freedom. We get so wrapped up in the traumas we face in life and allow the Devil and those negative experiences to shape the narrative of our lives forgetting we have the power to speak life. I will forever be grateful to Nora and I look forward to exploring more as I uncover more areas of my heart and mind that need healing and my journey of motherhood.
I was going through a tough patch, and I know getting in to a therapist can take weeks, which wasn't going to work. She has been great, and has helped me gain a bit of perspective about my situation. I would recommend her, and this service to anyone that needs to work through some stuff, and can't wait to physically see someone, or have a hard time getting to one with work schedules.
Nora is wonderful to speak to! She is so understanding and comforting, even if all you want to do is rant! She answers in a timely manner, and makes a true effort to reach out and help you. I would highly recommend!
Nora is great. She understands when I need a gentle push to take a step forward but at the same time knows when more time is needed for me to take a step on my own. She's extremely personable and that makes it very easy to become comfortable and really share what's going on. I've grown so much over the past few months and I attribute it to Nora's guidance. Thank you Nora.
Absolutely love her.
She is analytical, insightful, and wonderful. She has been very supportive to me. I would recommend her easily to anyone searching for comfort and empathy. She also challenges in some ways, which is good. Thank you for everything.
Nora Durand has been exceptional in helping me pinpoint my problem areas regarding my anxiety and what triggers it. She has been amazing about checking in when time gets away from me and days lapse. I am new to this process but even in a very short time and only message board sessions I feel such as difference in my ability to take control of my situations and make necessary changes to move forward to a happier healthier existence in my own life.
I am very busy and don't have much time for myself, so this platform has been amazing. Not only has the platform been great but I was matched with an amazing counselor she has helped me realized a lot about myself that I didn't know before and we are working on a plan to help me get the healing I need. I am excited about what is to come.
I am extremely happy with Nora's attentiveness, intelligence of processing my concerns, non judgmental tone, and compassion. I have recommend this type of counseling based on my experience with Nora's counseling. I hope if they sign up they get fitted with a counselor that works woth them as well. I also love Nora's flexibility. When I don't get back to her or follow through with some of her suggestions that I intented to do like journal writing she doesn't make me feel pressured but checks in amd encourages progress. I like that because it makes me feel motivated to stick with working though my issues and procrastination. I am hopeful that I will continue this counselling for a long time. It is healthy and I am happy I got fitted with her. Thank you.
