Hello and welcome! I am so glad you are here. It takes great courage to take the first step in seeking help.
My name is Norma Jean Salinas, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I earned my bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from The University of Texas at Austin, and my master’s degree in mental health counseling with "high distinction" from the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico. I am a mid-life career changer in my second act and have over four years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in multiple settings including schools, jails, non-profits, and private practice. I have successfully treated individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds who presented with issues including, but not limited to, stress, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, adjustment disorders, grief, loss, anger management, domestic violence, and women’s/men’s issues.
My style is very warm, empathetic, relaxed, and non-judgmental. At times, I may even use humor if the situation is appropriate. I like to use a client-centered approach because it allows you, the client, to direct your treatment. After all, the client knows himself/herself best and is the expert on his/her own life. My job is to collaborate with you, gently guide you, walk beside you, and hold space for you. I will always meet you where you are at and never force anything upon you.
I utilize an eclectic and integrative approach in working with my clients which means I pull from different evidence-based theories, modalities, and techniques so that I can tailor a treatment plan specific to your goals and needs because there is a no one-size-fits-all approach. This allows me to give you the various tools and skills that will best benefit you in meeting your goals and needs. Equally important is that you choose the right therapist who’s a good fit for you because building a good and solid therapeutic alliance between you (the client) and your therapist is crucial to a successful outcome.
I know that the unknown can be really scary sometimes, but you deserve to feel better and live a full and complete life, so if you are ready to take the next step, and you feel that we would be a good fit, let’s get started. I am here to support, encourage, and empower you, and I would be honored to walk alongside you in your journey.
Thank you so much for your consideration.

Norma is very understanding and caring. She has given me resources to help me with my problems. She also goes beyond by checking in with me. Life gets busy and self care can often fall to the bottom of the list. Norma helps ensure I make myself a priority.
Norma is an intuitive person and a great listener. I feel like she really cares and offers wonderful advice. She asks questions that spark important thought pathways.
Norma has had a major positive impact on my life and how I handle certain situations in a positive, constructive manner! I have done some therapy throughout my life and for the first time I have a therapist I trust 100% and feel free to open up to! I will reccomend Norma to anyone!
Norma Jean is compassionate and professional. She has excellent listening skills.
I very much appreciate how easy it is to talk with her. She offers suggestions based on what I have said It helps to be heard.
Norma is very helpful providing real life experiences and skillful techniques.
Norma is not the first therapist I've tried on Better Help or elsewhere, but she is the first therapist I've felt is actually invested in my health. She listens! She really consistently listens, she reads my journals, she responds to journals and texts in a timely manner, and she sends extra resources for me to engage outside of sessions.
Norma is kind and she cares; I feel hopeful with her support.
Norma is excellent. It’s my first time in therapy, but she makes it feel like talking to your great aunt. She’s seen and heard it all. Very understanding. Not judgemental. Also she has lots of material to help you learn and understand everything related to whatever you are struggling with. As long as you submit and be honest and vulnerable, she will succeed in helping you. Her method relies on you guiding the conversations. That means in order for you to get better you have to talk about things that make you feel uncomfortable or at a disadvantage or whatever. But she will logic you through how the mind works. And in a calm gentle non invasive way. Very easy to work with and understand. Would definitely recommend.
One of my biggest concerns about finding a therapist is being able to connect with and be understood by the therapist. I feel very lucky to have been paired with Norma. She does a great job of validating my feelings and making me feel heard. I love the resources she sends me, and look forward to our sessions.
Norma Jean is always friendly and kind, with a smile on her face. She listens and really cares about talking you through situations!
Norma seems like a great listener and even though I’m a scatter brain she keeps me on topic
Norma Jean is a very supportive and responsive counselor. I feel like she is very good at guiding me through my thoughts and feelings. She is available in between sessions, which is super helpful. She has helped me take the next steps in my life and I will be forever grateful for that.
Norma has helped me tremendously. She has been nothing but the best to me and has listened and truly understands my stance on my current situations. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with Norma.
