Norma Jones, LCSW
About me
I have worked in the social services field for more than 30 years, but I've worked as a licensed therapist in the State of Illinois for the past 14 years. I completed my undergraduate studies in Michigan at Andrews University, where I earned a Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) degree. After several years and layers of life experience, I attended the University of Chicago and earned a Masters Degree in Social Services (AM), while also working a full time job and caring for my then young(ish) children.
My pre-graduate experience included working as a case manager, then legal advocate in domestic violence shelters; and later working as a child welfare worker for just over15 years.
Upon earning a clinical license I took on the role of Behavioral Health Consultant for a grouping of Chicago area Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). In my most recent position, howerver, I worked as a contract professional providing therapy services to emotionally and mentally ill patients living in nursing homes. Together these two positions allowed me to gain experience in providing individual and group counseling services to people of most age groups having a range of emotional, mental, and behavioral issues that ranged from depression and anxiety to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. I've also counseled those suffering from chronic pain, poorly managed health problems, and some dealing with addictions.
My particular passion is for those who are hurting, who need help working through issues, who do not realize their own value and strength, who feel stuck, and/or who suffer with a belief in untruths about themselves and their situations. I believe that everyone is an expert of their own story and that each one has many strengths that can assist them in overcoming things that challenge them.
It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support and empower you in that journey.
