Hello! My name is Pamela! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Virginia. I obtained both my Masters of Education and Education Specialist degrees in Clinical Counseling from the College of William and Mary after attending West Virginia University where I received my Bachelors in Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a Masters of Science in Community Health Education.
I am humbled to be part of your journey and I work to tailor an individual's needs and goals with evidence-based treatments. The most important aspect of counseling is the connection and comfort you feel with the person you choose to share your life story. Challenges are opportunities to learn about ourselves, to become more aware and to make changes. When we are living a situation, or experience we are often too close to make sense of it. Coming into counseling offers the perspective or additional support of an outside person to help one make movement over being stuck.
Counseling is an interactive process for me as a solution-focused practitioner. I strive to provide support and practical feedback to help clients learn about themselves and address the life challenges they are experiencing. I work with individuals to build on their strengths to affect change in their lives.
In terms of availability, I check and respond to messages at least twice daily, seven days a week. I offer live chat, phone sessions, and video sessions weekly often in the evening hours.
Whether you are looking for support and guidance through a challenging situation or you’re just ready to move your life in a better direction I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

Pamela gives insight into what you discuss in a unique way. It makes you think and help solve things within yourself or your thinking rather than you just listening to her.

Pam is an intelligent, calming presence. Great listener. Doesn't rush you through what can be overwhelming amounts of information you are trying to share. She is carefully picking up important points, your burning issues as you speak.

Pamela is the best. Personally, I require a lot of patience. And she has offered me nothing less than that. She’s understanding and plays along well with my dark sense of humor wish is a rare experience for me. Therapy has never really been affective with me, but since starting with BetterHelp Ive noticed a significant improvement. She’s comes with no judgement, and wants nothing but the best for you. 10/10.

Very accessible and gives good insights on the choices that we make. She has opened my eyes on my role in the choices I’ve made in my life and how to cope better.

Pamela has proven to be very insightful about me in a short amount of time. One of the things that I hate about starting counseling with someone new is having to catch them up with a lifetime of experiences. Pamela has been so attentive and such a good listener that I feel like I didn’t waste any time in reentering counseling with her. (As if NOT being in counseling wasn’t wasted time on my part—but I digress.) From the first morning of the first counseling appointment she observed several things in my behavior that I definitely needed to see and address. While we are new in this counseling relationship I am encouraged that we have had a solid beginning.

I’ve only know Pamela for a few weeks, but she’s already helped me make such a difference in my life! She listens to me and my concerns, and helps me feel like my feelings and wants/needs are valid. She’s not afraid to tell me like it is, which helps me get over roadblocks I have placed in my own path. I look forward to continuing to work with her!

Pamela listens without judgement and provides thoughtful encouragement and guidance.
Written on May 24, 2018 after therapy with Pamela for 2 weeks on issues concerning stress, anxiety, relationship, family, intimacy-related, and sleeping
I’ve been working with Pamela for about five months. I feel like I’ve received so many benefits. Not only is this a space to write about what’s going on for me but Pamela acknowledges what I’m feeling and will validate, re-frame or gently challenge depending on the situation. No matter what, though, I feel supported and accepted.
I find the process of writing about what’s going on much more helpful than traditional in-person counselling because I’m forced to slow down and really focus on what I’m saying.

Thank you Pamela for your help and advice over these past 4 months. Your insight has been very valuable in furthering my understanding of myself, my capabilities and what to expect from others. Sometimes it takes talking things through and hearing advice from an outside source. Your patience and guidance have given me the positive attitude and direction for a start of a fresh new life! Thank you so much!!!

Pamela has been so helpful. She is straightforward and supportive and really hears the subtext of what I'm saying, even when I don't realize it myself. I am grateful to have her help.
Written on Dec 02, 2017 after therapy with Pamela for 2 weeks on issues concerning eating
I'm so happy that I started using this service and that I was paired with Pamela. I had a therapist before (NOT through betterhelp) that, while she was nice, she never checked on me when I stopped my appointments. It made me feel like I was just a number and didn't make me feel like I could ever go back. That is definitely not the case with Pamela. She is someone that definitely would (and has!) checked in with me. Whenever I read her responses, I can tell that she read absolutely everything and took her time with a very thoughtful response. She is someone that I feel I can trust and she takes everything that she knows about me into consideration. I feel like I'm in great hands with her. Thank you, Pamela!

I have found my time with Pamela to be quite productive - more so than previous face-to-face therapy experiences I’ve had. She “listens” well and really seems to consider what you’re telling her before she renders any advice. I am very glad I decided to take this leap and try online counseling and very pleased that I was matched with Pamela.

I had been looking for a counselor for quite a while but my schedule is such that I can't commit to a certain time each week. This approach is perfect for me. I find that by writing to Pamela Waitkus, we can both see my challenges. I love that she can clarify what challenges I have and offer ways to break them down into bite-size pieces that enable me to make the changes I need to make to be a happier person. I would highly recommend Pamela to an adult who wants to unchain their past and live a fuller life today.

Pamela has been a godsend in a really uncertain and difficult time for me. She has been there when I need reassurance in the process I’m partaking in to change certain patterns of behavior. Her words of encouragement and support have been so helpful and she talks a lot of sense, and gives me very helpful ways on how to move forward and sea with my emotions. I feel very thankful that I was matched with her.
