Welcome to my profile! I am glad you are here. My name is Patrick McCain and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Oklahoma. I started working in the field as a technician in 2005 at a psychiatric hospital in Sherman, Tx. Since 2005, I have continued working in the field, growing, and becoming fully licensed as a therapist. I take pride in my journey to help others. The road is long but rewarding. If you are interested in facing the challenge of change than I will be dedicated to facilitating. I believe you will be the expert in the process. I will not attempt to change you as a person or anything in your life. That kind of change is only decided by you. I will help you build on your strengths and work with you to find solutions in your time of stress. I will respect your decisions and maintain a non-judgemental attitude. Let me help you find your own solutions and way of coping with life struggles.
In my 13 years of counseling, I have experience in a multitude of disorders. My experience underlies success with treating Anxiety/Depression, PTSD, Bi-Polar, Personality Disorders such as Borderline Personality Disorder, Children's Disorders such as Reactive Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiance, and Emotional Disturbances. I have learned to take a variety of approaches to help clients find healing, growth, and desired changes. I use a person-centered approach that maintains the utmost positive regard for you and your needs. My cognitive approach will help challenge and change depression or anxiety thinking. My training as a Trauma-Focused therapist will help in understanding symptomology, identify triggers, and reduce sensitivity to events that may be a reminder of past trauma. Substance abuse is another specialty. In treating substance use therapists need to be careful not to take a singleness approach. We all experience different believes and respond differently to addiction. Therefore, I use a variety of approaches that help clients maintain a life without the obsession of substances.
I find the counseling process to be an exciting process. I will be enthusiastic to build a professional and counseling relationship. This process should not be taken lightly. It should be honored, as the decision to get counseling is not an easy one. If you are here and have chosen to start the journey of growth then congratulations! Please let me know if I can help.

For over a year, Patrick has been an anchor of support and perspective. He leads me to my own conclusions and offers guidance without ever making me feel like I'm being told what to do. It's like I'm talking to an old friend or mentor.
Great listener, calm and understanding. Very positive and supportive.
Patrick has been very helpful so far and I am looking forward to more sessions:)
Patrick is amazing. I've caught myself smiling/laughing a few times because of a moment where he leads me to the right question or moment that I needed to get to. My anxiety makes face-to-face therapy very difficult, and sometimes counterproductive, so being able to schedule chat sessions makes me feel very comfortable and open about everything.
Patrick has been amazing to work with. He is very compassionate and really cares to help you feel better. I have not felt judged once with him, and I leave sessions feeling lighter.
