Welcome! Thank you for taking a minute to explore a bit about who I am. My name is Paul Deutsch and I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for the past 15 years. I recently received my Doctorate of Education in Counselor Education and Supervision from Viterbo University. I have been working in a community based rural setting for my career. I have been a member of clinical teams and have been working in a solo practice for the past 4 years. I have a broad base of clinical skills with an emphasis on complex challenges like personality disorders (and related concerns like self-harm), depression, anxiety and panic, LGBTQ stressors, family dynamics and the various forms of marital conflict.
My theory of practice is based in a Humanistic approach. I could be seen as a Post-modern (Solution-Focused, Narrative) but also have strong ties to interventions related to Cognitive Behavioral Theory and Radical Acceptance. I am deeply connected to the metaphysical qualities and energy work associated with our mental process, both as it relates to our relationship with our intuition and our interactions with our external worlds. These skills connected with my understanding of neuroscience and brain functionality have supported my effective use of language to develop deep and supportive rapports with my clients.
I spend my time off from counseling as a Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning coach and have extensive training in nutrition and physical wellbeing. I also love to ski and ride fat tire bike. An additional skill set is within Business Coaching and have helped many clients improve their work lives, keep jobs or change to better ones while supporting an improved sense of self. I look forward to having the opportunity to find ways that I can support your journey. The road is hard and living a life brings suffering but these days we don't have to do that alone.
Be well, Paul

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Paul Deutsch. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Dr. Deutsh is a consummate professional. I have never experienced therapy this way before. My standards are exceedingly high and Paul exceeds them.
I feel Dr. Deutsch is an absolute expert in his field and it fills me with joy knowing there are professionals knowing how to operate in this sensitive field of online therapy. Usually it takes me a while to be able to open up but I actually got the core point to work on in our first session. Thank you very much for your insights.
I can’t recommend online therapy compared to in person therapy but this therapist is an absolute gem.
Thorough, adept at knowing when to challenge my way of thinking in a delicate and compassionate way. Knowledgeable about all of the topics and struggles that I have brought to his attention. He has been helpful beyond measure and I highly recommend him.
Finding an unbiased opinion very useful and the insight is most appreciated!
Dr. Deutsch has been very helpful during a stressful time in family court, with an ex that does not follow agreements reliably. I have appreciated his ability to listen and offer suggestions during this process. I feel equipped to move forward with future uncertainties, having had his guidance. I would definitely recommend him.
Probably one of the best therapist I've had.
He’s amazing!!!! We connect so well and he makes me feel so comfortable and confident in myself. I feel comfortable bringing up issues with him that I’ve never felt comfortable bringing up before with anyone. I wouldn’t give him up for the world
I have only seen him twice but I already feel extremely pleased I feel like he is a good match
He listens and he offers strategies for coping
Looking forward to our sessions
Dr. Deutsch gave me insight, understanding and the tools to take on what I was struggling with and helped me ground myself enoigh to take on what was going on. He was really helpfull to have when dealing with a big life change
I've really enjoyed my time with Dr. Deutsch. He was easy to talk to, quick to respond and offered a number of helpful tools and tips for me. If I need therapy again in the future, he would be my first choice to come back to.
He is an exce4llent knowledge based counselor. 5 stars.
Paul is the best therapist I could ask for.
He challenges you in your beliefs and gives you a clear structure to work your way through your problems.
He makes me feel good that he really understands what the challenge is about and not just working through his toolbox.
Paul is without a doubt the best therapist I have ever had the pleasure of talking to. There is absolutely no question he is the absolute best-he understands everything that’s going on and he listens and truly does care on how you feel and that means the world for people like me who are struggling with thoughts and life.
Very helpful, I can see the difference in myself, less anxious, more confident, happier and better equipped to deal with adversity
Paul is great, he listens, understands, and he’s always there providing support.
I think Paul and I connect well, it's easy to talk to him and I enjoy our counseling sessions.
Paul Deutsch is a wonderful therapist, he knows how to make you feel at ease with a little humour or a gentle smile.
But he understood the root of my problems straight away...
I have recommended this application to my family and friends. I love that I can be in the comfort of my own home and not waiting in a clinical lounge before my appointment.
Paul is really great. He's easy to talk to and offers both insight and concrete suggestions. He has helped me manage my anxiety and depression through some dark times during Covid lockdown.
I decided to sign up with BetterHelp when I had reached a point where, deep down, I knew I couldn't tackle my challenges on my own anymore. I've worked with Paul for the past six months and he's provided just what I needed to make progress in my personal life, in the professional world, with politics and my immediate family, and even in my marriage. For example, he suggested a helpful daily tool in our first session that I still use to this day. He's incredibly thought-provoking, which has helped me to approach my challenges in a way I never could've all by myself. But he also gives me plenty of space to explore on my own and put my personal spin on things in order to build up my confidence. Paul also tells it like it is, which is a style of counseling I appreciate because I don't want to wallow around in the darkness. I want to make real progress. I'm so grateful we were paired up. It's been a year, as we all know, and I'm proud of myself for taking the initiative to go that extra step to support my mental health. Six months ago, I felt very alone, and pretty dark about my future. With Paul's help, I'm hopeful and confident that I'll be able to tackle what the next six months throws at me!
He is great
I’ve only had one session so far with Paul but I am so pleased! He is exactly the right therapist for me and I am looking forward to my upcoming sessions.
Paul is not only stereotypically good listener, but also intuitive enough to understand without having to over explaining or even explain at all sometimes. He shares his knowledge and interacts on a human level with no patronisation or judgement.
He is not at all a passive therapist, or in any means rigid in his approach- he references and uses energy, psychology modules and directs language all in a holistic and comprehensible psychoanalysis and psychotherapy in an attempt to healing and positive change.
For ever grateful to have stumbled on his profile
I have been working with Paul for a couple of months now and I don’t think I can speak highly enough of him and my experience so far. We regularly call and we message when something comes up for me that I’d like to discuss. I knew very quickly that I was talking to a professional and that I could trust his advice and insight. He remembers details very well and has helped me through a variety of scenarios. He offers me new perspectives while also reassuring me that he’s there for me and on my side through the things that we chat about. As serious as some of the topics are, Paul creates a non-judgmental, light-hearted and often humorous atmosphere which helps me feel comfortable discussing things that are difficult. I feel so lucky to have been paired with someone like him.
Paul is helpful. The dialogue he provides helps clear up a stressed mind and points towards a path of feeling at peace.
Paul has been working with me on my challenges over the last few months, dealing with depression, anxiety as well as a partner with bipolar disorder, his no-nonsense, honest approach works for my personality type. I feel that I’ve made good progress with learning to set realistic boundaries for myself as well as communicate my standards in my work and personal life. If you’re looking for a someone who tells it as it is and doesn’t sugar coat reality - he’s your guy. His ultimate interest is ensuring you’re looking after yourself and your mental state first and it really does come through in his style of coaching.
Knowing how to patiently tie things together to find the sense of our paths is a talent that few people have and Paul is one of them. With his guidance, crossing even the most insidious lands becomes easy.
In the little time that I was able to use this app, he helped me a great deal. I recommend Paul to anyone who seeks support.
Very professional and experienced. He really have a in-deep understanding of my problems and needs. When I got so lost, he would patiently try various ways to sort my problems one by another, lead me to the light step by step. He helped me to go through the hardest time. I wouldn’t be able to make it without him. Highly recommend!
He's always here when I need him.
Paul has helped me a great deal and I’m very grateful to him.
Paul is great!
Paul clearly has a gift for supporting others. He manages to build a sense of trust immediately, listens and it's clear that he tailors his advice to individuals, as well as using things that have worked in the past as tools to help with anxiety. He really helped me to understand how to untangle my concerns and effective ways to deal with this. I would highly recommend Paul.
Best mentor ever. His teachings and sessions have helped to become better human being and slowly walk out of depression.
Paul is pragmatic, reactive, and very good at helping you to break out of seemingly dead ends. I would absolutely recommend exchanges with him to anyone who’s in need and ready for clear words. Thank you for being there!
An amazing professional! Balanced and experienced person with an eye to read between the lines and to understand different perspectives. I would highly recommend Paul !
I am still new to using betterhelp but so far I am very happy with the progress. I feel Paul actually listens to what I am saying, rather than just giving text book answers. We have a similar way of working and I feel very confident going through all my issues.
Paul is a highly expert therapist. I was lucky to have matched with him first as he very much embodies what I had hoped for. I felt very comfortable voicing how I see and want this to work and we have been able to find a way of working together that’s productive and feels consistent. I look forward to sessions with Paul and appreciate his insight. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering counselling.
