About me

Hello! My name is Paula Peterson. I have been a practicing counselor since 2007. I am licensed professional counselor in Wisconsin and Clinical Mental Health Counselor in New Hampshire. I am grateful that you are reading my profile and if you connect to what I am sharing, please contact me.
It takes courage and humility to seek out help. Great job noticing your need and taking the step to get your need met!!

I chose the counseling field because of seeing the power of being vulnerable with the struggles of our lives and being cared for in that vulnerability. I know that our mental health is just as important as taking care of the other aspects of ourselves. I obtained a degree in Mental Health Counseling from University of Wisconsin-Stout. I have practiced in a day treatment and outpatient setting. I have worked successfully with adults and adolescents. I bring to my practice the belief that we as humans have in us, an innate ability to work through life's struggles. I seek to tap into that ability within our counseling relationship. I have experience working with trauma, anxiety, self worth and self esteem, life transitions, grief and loss, and anger management. I also enjoy working with addictions, depression and spiritual struggles.

Lastly, if what I have shared fits for you, please reach out. I look forward to getting to know you and walking with you at this time in your journey. If what I have shared does not fit, I hope you are able to find a good fit for you and your needs.

Paula has an amazing gift to help me see my concerns from a completely different perspective. Just by shifting the lens from which I view things, she has helped me to see possibilities where I could see none. She listens intently and her responses are unique and always applicable to the issue at hand. I love that she is not hesitant to offer a contrary view, rather than just reflecting back what I am saying. I have learned so much about my emotions and how to process in a healthy way, by working with Paula.

Paula has been very helpful showing me methods to manage the issues that I brought up to her. I came to better help to work on some anger issues that arose after my brother passed. I also suffered from depression and feelings of inadequacy and trouble developing new friendships and developing a closer relationship with my adult daughter. I now have a much closer, satisfying relationship with her, and some girlfriends.

I have learned to feel my emotions and let them flow through me instead of pushing them down and avoiding them. I feel like I have learned strategies to help me be successful in all areas of my life.

I will choose to engage with Paula in the future if I feel myself slipping away from the growth I have achieved in the time we have worked together.

I am so grateful to have found a therapist I can trust to be vulnerable with and not feel judged for my inadequacies. Paula is sincere and kind and takes the time to ask questions to really understand what I am going through . I appreciate Paula’s insight and expertise and genuine caring. Paula also keeps in close touch, and responds quickly when I am going through a tough situation. I couldn’t ask for a better therapist.
