About me

I am a licensed mental health counselor with a background in domestic violence, sexual assault, and sexual and relationship health. I have worked in a variety of settings including public school, college, and community action agencies. As a U.S. Navy veteran, I also enjoy working with active duty service members, veterans, and their families. I have completed the University of Michigan's Sexual Health Certificate Program with a concentration in sex therapy. This training included individual sexual health and functioning, relationship intimacy, sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression.
I use a variety of approaches in my work with clients including solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness. I come from a person-centered perspective which means that you are the expert in your own experience and you have choices about how we move forward together. I will often offer suggestions and ideas but ultimately leave the choice and pathway to you.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Pete Tolson. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

I have had a couple of therapists before Pete. Those therapists made me think that maybe therapy wasn’t for me. Pete changed all of that. He is always respectful and encouraging, and very easy to talk to. I never feel any pressure whatsoever from him. After every single session with him I feel like I am making progress. I could go on and on about how good he is at his job, and how thrilled I am with the help he has given me. His guidance has made a huge positive impact on how I cope with life. I am certain things are better for me because of his help.

Pete is an amazing therapist. He’s honestly the best match I’ve had in 10 years of searching. He is considerate, listens and digs deep when I need him to. He’s helped me through some difficult current and past trauma with a realistic and transformational lens.

Pete provides wise and empathetic counsel and treats his clients with respect. I appreciate the time he takes to help me unpack my emotions and change the story I tell myself. I would recommend Pete to anyone looking for a trauma-informed counselor.
