About me

Have you ever wished for a space where you could slow down, breathe, and feel truly seen? That’s the kind of space I strive to create.

I’m Philicia Barbieri, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). At my core, I believe every person has the ability to create their own meaning and purpose. My work is grounded in an existential approach that honors your individuality and your natural capacity to build a rich, fulfilling life.

I’ve been in the field since 2013, supporting individuals through addiction recovery, mental health challenges, and major life transitions. My experience includes crisis counseling, community-based work, and group therapy, all of which shape my open and accepting style. I meet you where you are and walk with you toward the changes you want to make.

I am trauma-informed and trained in EMDR, which means I bring a gentle, evidence-based approach to healing trauma and distress. I help clients safely process experiences that feel “stuck,” rebuild a sense of internal safety, and move forward with greater clarity and resilience.

Alongside my counseling work, I’m also a certified yoga instructor. Mindfulness, meditation, and yoga often weave into my sessions as grounding tools to support recovery, emotional regulation, and deeper self-awareness.

I work with adults and couples, offering individual and relationship therapy using cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and a compassionate, human-centered approach. I support people navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, and mild to severe substance use concerns.

I received my Master’s in Professional Counseling from Carlow University in 2015.

When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me on my yoga mat, out on a walk, or relaxing at home with my husband and our three dogs.

My therapist has been an incredible source of support and growth in my life. She creates a safe, compassionate space while also helping me challenge myself and heal in meaningful ways. I’ve learned so much about my emotions, boundaries, and self-worth through our work together. I’m deeply grateful for her guidance and highly recommend her to anyone ready to truly heal and grow.

Philicia is thoughtful, caring, and honest - all the things I need when looking for a therapist. I was able to work through a lot in just a few sessions with her as she made me comfortable to share things I hadn’t even said out loud before. I am beyond grateful for her advice and counsel.

Very receptive and helpful. Asks the right questions and she lets me speak as much as I need to since I talk a lot. Allows me to think and feel through a session

I have had a couple of sessions with Philicia and even in this short amount of time she understands exactly what I am going through and have gone through. She listens and helps put it all into perspective for me. I look forward to our sessions because I know that Philicia cares about me and my well-being.

Philicia makes me feel heard and validated. She also gets to the point quickly and is candid with me. In the short time we meet and via text, this is perfect.
