About me

My name is Philip Clary, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia. I have over 9 years of counseling experience working with individuals, couples, and families in inpatient and outpatient settings.

I earned a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University with majors in philosophy and German. I studied for 1 year at Phillips Universität in Marburg, Germany and received a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Fort Valley State University. My ongoing studies in and love of philosophy inform my approach to helping others examine their lives as they seek meaning, direction, and purpose.

I am interested in helping you understand, cope with, manage, and reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety and adapt to major changes in life. I work patiently and compassionately with those seeking to understand and come to terms with feelings of shame, loss and grief, meaninglessness, isolation, and ultimately our limited lifespan. I hope to help others, young and old, discover or create their own meaning and purpose in life. I want to help people answer for themselves, “How do I want to live the rest of my life?” and to develop ways to meaningfully connect with others.

Please be aware that I am currently only providing text therapy on BetterHelp.

My approach to therapy is informed by several useful perspectives. I employ elements of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), mindfulness-based therapy, existential psychotherapy, and narrative therapy.

When appropriate, I incorporate elements of popular culture, such as video games, anime and manga, comics, and super hero literature and movies. These are great resources for story lines that many can relate to in deeper and more meaningful ways than traditional talk therapy.

I look forward to working with you to set and meet your goals for your best life.

Phillip is a very attentive Counselor my busy schedule always hindered me from a traditional in person counseling session. Phillip was very flexible and worked with me via text message while I was at work out and about or at home. I really appreciate him for that. Other counselors were very firm about have video counseling sessions. I still don’t understand why but never the less

It has been my sincere pleasure to share my journey of the past 2 years with Philip. I didn’t plan on having a counselor for that long, but then COVID happened, and with it came challenges in nearly every area of my life. Philip has been an essential part of my support system, and I am so happy that I chose him as a counselor! I found him to be both empathetic and knowledgeable. He’s a great listener, and and I felt confident that he understood where I was coming from more quickly than most, even though we had phone chat sessions rather than face-to-face. Philip helped me through some very difficult challenges and is a huge part of the recent successes I’ve had in both my personal and professional life. I couldn’t recommend a better counselor!

I have only been working with Philip a couple of weeks, but he is kind, thoughtful, empathic, and a good listener. I enjoy working with him.

Philip has been extremely helpful in navigating some rough patches in my life. He is an excellent listener, and really understands me and helps me think of different ways to approach challenging conversations. He’s taught me a lot about communication and about understanding others. I feel like I have a new outlook on life, and I’m able to build stronger relationships with friends and family. He has provided me with helpful tools to reconnect with my spouse, and always makes me feel like I’m not alone in the ways that I am feeling. I am truly grateful for his support and guidance over the last 8 or 9 months, and I would highly recommend him to others!

Philip was a great help for my situation. He listened and his responses were always very thoughtful. He had very practical advice and tips for me when I asked for them, and they have already proven to be helpful for me. Thank you Philip!
