Renée Thompson

About Me

Welcome! I commend you for taking the first step towards healing. My name is Renee and I am here to help you be the best YOU can be. These are difficult and strange times during the COVID-19 pandemic. Perhaps you too are feeling isolated, fearful, confused, anxious and sad. Whatever your struggles or concerns are, I feel confident that we can identify and overcome them together. My counseling approach focuses on your strengths and resiliency. It recognizes YOU as the expert of your own life. With my education, clinical training and experience, I will guide you to find relief from your symptoms. I can help you increase self-awareness, tap into your internal strengths and resiliency, and find new ways to cope. I am open-minded, empathetic and non-judgmental. I provide a safe and accepting environment for honest exploration of your areas of personal difficulty. I will give you perspective, encouragement and potential solutions to help you navigate through this difficult time. My goal is to help you live your life to its fullest potential! You will likely find meaning and reach your goals within a short period of time in counseling with me.

I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Florida for 11 years. I graduated at the top of my class (magna cum laude) in graduate school. I have over 17 years of counseling experience. I am an expert in grief counseling, compassion fatigue, and loss to suicide. I am the co-founder of the Tampa Bay Chapter for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). This non-profit organization is very close to my heart due to my own loss of a loved one to suicide 14 years ago. I have 8 years of experience counseling hospice and palliative care patients and their families and 15 years of experience counseling parents and their children who struggle with emotional and behavioral problems.

It would be a privilege to walk with you through your journey. I am open to counseling through chat, video or by phone and I look forward to communicating with you in the format that you find most comfortable.

She's great. Working with her for just a month was really really helpful to me - exactly what I needed.

Very warm and personable. She listens attentively and helps create a safe place where emotions are allowed. Renee has response time to chats and sessions are warm and inviting.

Renée has done a wonderful job of being empathetic, understanding, and encouraging. I appreciate that she is focused on setting goals as it is something I didn’t anticipate being an important part of therapy, but has proven helpful to me. She is ok with not having a specific focus for a session, but she steers me in that direction, which is something I am learning I need to get the most out of our therapy relationship.
