About me

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) from New Orleans, Louisiana. My specialty is working with survivors of childhood trauma and gender-based violence. So many of us are great at taking care of others yet struggle with taking care of ourselves. Sometimes we find ourselves pushing people away and isolating, when what we truly want is support and connection. I look at problems through an intersectional feminist framework and use cognitive behavioral interventions that help my clients manage overwhelming emotions, change self-destructive habits, improve personal relationships, and feel more in control of their lives.

I will build a brave space with you, where you can explore how your past experiences have shaped patterns of relating to others. We will clarify your values and discover your authentic self. You will learn and practice new and more helpful ways of interacting in the present. As a yogi and dancer, I may also incorporate somatic interventions into sessions.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is considered the gold standard for treating anxiety and depression. It involves a lot of writing out our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that we can notice patterns and find alternative choices. This is why weekly Live Chat sessions, along with sending messages and completing worksheets in between sessions, are a perfect modality for this treatment approach.

While the therapeutic relationship is a professional one, it's still important to me that you experience me as a real person with genuine interest and care for you, so I'll share a bit about myself here. I am located in New Orleans, where I have lived most of my life. I have a BA in sociology and women's studies from Loyola University and a master's in social work from Tulane University. I started my social work career as a Disaster Housing Case Manager for folks impacted by Hurricane Katrina, then after grad school I worked for the District Attorney as a Domestic Violence Victim Advocate and Counselor. I then spent 3 years as a community-based therapist before taking a hiatus to dance professionally in New York and get my yoga teacher certification. Now I work full-time in clinical private practice, and I also perform with local community theatre and dance companies. I share my home with 2 dogs, a goldador named Bella and a chihuahua-mix named Rex, and a pet snake named Kaa. I like to take road trips, and most of my vacations are spent in a campground or at a music festival.

I have found trauma is not something you get over, but something you move through. As a trauma survivor myself, I’ve experienced the transformative power of therapy from the client side, too. I know how much courage it takes to open up to someone new, and let them see who you are, and who you want to become. I would be honored to step into your world and help clear a new path forward.

Renee is exactly the therapist that I need---patient, nonjudgmental, and challenges me on some wishful thinking. She is great at zeroing in on the core issues without being overly blunt.

Renee has and continues to help me so much with understanding my emotions and finding meaning in every aspect of my life. She has given me the tools to really allow me to craft my own positive perspective on all of life's ups and downs. She is there for all of the hard times and so much fun during the good times. She always knows how to deal with serious issues and still finds good spots for some levity and humor. All things considered Renee is a genuine caring person with a big heart and a great understanding of people and their feelings.
