Dr. Rhoda Lipscomb, LPC
About me
Thank you for reading my profile. I strongly believe in the healing power of mental health care and have seen the benefits from both a personal and professional view. I often tell people that for therapy to work well, there needs to be a strong connection and trust. Without it, all the great theories and counseling methods are useless.
I have been counseling individuals and couples in the area of human sexuality for over 34 years. I received my PhD in clinical sexology from the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists in Orlando, FL and Masters of Science in Counseling from the University of Phoenix. I also have certifications in sex therapy, marriage & family therapy and clinical hypnosis.
I started my counseling career working in reproductive health clinics, such as Planned Parenthood, specializing in education and counseling around healthy sexuality, contraceptive and sexually transmitted infection care.
I have been a sex therapist in private practice for over 20 years specializing in the alternative sexuality communities, such as open relationships, GLBT, BDSM, AB/DL, kink and fetishes. While I am a specialist in these areas, I am also skilled in working with anxiety, stress and life transitions.
My approach to therapy is helping people to understand, accept and appreciate their sexuality with all the wonderful unique flavors that come with it. Shame, embarrassment, guilt and fear are poisonous to healthy sexual expression so letting go of old, irrational and impractical belief patterns can pave the way for a new and exciting beginning.
