Greetings! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois, have a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work, and have more than 20 years of experience working in the mental health field, and more than 17 years of experience working directly as a mental health therapist in community mental health agencies and in private practice. My development as a therapist was first formed by my research into, and awareness of dysfunctional and addictive family systems and by working as a Parent-Education Instructor in a juvenile justice diversion program, where I facilitated groups with juvenile offenders and with their parents. Then, after graduation, I worked as an intensive home-based family therapist providing at least five hours of psychotherapy services directly in the homes of families whose teenagers were at risk of out of home placement. These two experiences were privileges that taught me the reality of how a strengths-based, solution-focused approach, that both honored a family's values and resiliency, while it also encouraged the development of communication skills that allowed for the sharing of deeply-held feelings and which promoted increasingly respectful communication, could truly make positive changes more than possible.
You will find that my approach is deeply empathetic and non-judgmental, while it is also informed by various models of psychotherapy that will help us, as a team, to make incremental changes that will likely help you experience some immediate relief of symptoms while we also delve into the root causes of your current struggles in life. It is my experience that all of us struggle at times, and have experiences where we can get stuck not knowing how to find our way forward, given the tools we have been using. I believe you will find that our partnership is the foundation on which we can help you experience progress and success as you find ways to utilize various tools that you likely already have in your toolbox, but have not yet considered using in approaching your current difficulties. You will find that I encourage you to think about your situation and that I will also direct you to various resources to both help you learn and to help you deal with any symptoms you are experiencing.
I want you to know that I have historically worked with a wide range of clients at every age and stage of life, and that as a therapist I have extensive training in working with those struggling with mental illnesses, including those with severe forms of depression and anxiety, and those having experienced trauma and abuse, and with those having parenting issues. I also have significant experience working with those struggling with relationship issues, family conflict, emotional intimacy issues, and grief and loss. In my work with couples, I seek to help each partner express their vulnerabilities in the relationship, and help each one find their own unique voice with which to share, and listen to the other. The most important thing for you to know, though, is that no matter the issue, it is your willingness to explore your current struggles, while we mutually ponder the situation and I invite you to find solutions that will work for you, that will help us to help you experience the growth, change, hope, and healing you desire. I look forward to working with you!

I stumbled across BetterHelp while doing research online. After filling out the questionnaire I was assigned to Roberta. Not being sure if this would work well for me I have been so grateful for the insight, advice and caring Roberta has shown me. I would highly recommend her to anyone struggling and in need of counseling.
Roberta is a truly compassionate and caring practitioner who has helped me through some difficult times. She has always respected my feelings and shown great empathy when I most needed it.
Roberta continues to be a caring supportive and insightful therapist who engages professional and thpughfully during our sessions. She is warm and so easy to talk to. She is brilliant and knows extensive knowledge with the dynamics of trauma. I am truly grateful for her support and understanding . Her guidance is valuable and I have grown so much in our time together.
Where I live, there is very little mental health support, especially long-term. I was referred to BetterHelp through a YouTuber and got the free trial. I was sceptical at first, as I've had poor experiences with mental health professionals in the past. I was paired up with Roberta Hinman. After our first session, I felt a sense of relief in that I finally found someone who wanted to help me with some deep issues that root from my upbringing. She made me feel like I was important like I deserved to be getting the help I was searching for. She invites me to message her if I accidentally withdraw socially for too long, and it's nice to be able to message someone whenever I'm in distress. She is so kind and very intuitive, getting what I'm saying even when I'm rambling and sending out so much information at once. I would highly recommend her to anyone dealing with trauma and PTSD.
Roberta is a wonderful human being and a true professional. In a matter of hours she has helped me return to my true self and helped cope with difficulties i was experiencing. I intend on working with Roberta for the time to come. Thank you, my dear friend!
Very, VERY, insightful and kind hearted person. I can't sing her praises enough.
I have every confidence in Roberta and in 2 week or so I have gained more insight into my life situation than I ever have with the multiple sessions of psychotherapy and counselling I have experienced.
