Romana Cheang

(M.S., LMFT)

About Me

Aloha! I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist from the state of California. I was raised in Oahu, Hawaii and had been living in Southern California for the past 7 years. I completed my Master’s degree from Loma Linda University and I have four years+ (and counting) of experience working as a therapist. I have worked in community clinics, elementary & high school settings, and a residential treatment facility. I have experience working with couples, families, and individuals. Adolescents and young adults are also a strong focus of mine. My areas of experience are: Stress & anxiety, depressive issues, anger management, parent-child relational issues, relational problems, and phase of life issues.

I would describe my therapeutic style as strength-based, collaborative, insight-oriented, use of humor and many metaphors! With our therapy process together, I’d like to spend more time knowing about you and assist you in “connecting the dots” or “fitting those odd puzzle pieces together” so you can live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

I was taught that we each carry an “invisible backpack” packed with difficulties, hardships, personal trauma in life. And these growing difficulties results in a heavier backpack which may one day become unbearable. As your therapist, I believe my role is to unpack with you so you can rest those shoulders, and/or train those “mental muscles.” Because sometimes life doesn’t get easier, but with the therapeutic process, you have strengthened your endurance. You will thrive.

I love her! I feel like I can be myself with her. She understands me and I appreciate that she doesn’t see me as a problem, she directs me patiently. She’s very good to talk to. :)

Dr. Cheang is amazing and has been super helpful to me for almost a year now, with a lot of support via text and phone that I need.

Romana has been my therapist for about 3 months now, and I have seen so much progress in my journey through mental health. I came to BetterHelp to find a convenient way to seek help for depressed moods and phase-of-life transitions (I am a recent college graduate). I am so grateful that I got paired with Romana. Her advice, wisdom, and support has helped me through my struggles and so much more. Romana is relatable and takes the time to understand my experiences and life stories. I absolutely recommend her to anyone who is looking to take care of their mental health.

Romana is an INCREDIBLE therapist. She responds in a timely manner and tries to understand what you're going through. She's INCREDIBLY helpful. When I was worried I wasn't going to be able to afford the website; I was more nervous about not being able to talk to Romana because she has helped SO MUCH! She's my first therapist I've ever spoken to and well, I can't say enough good things about her.

She has a very good memory and helps out a lot with at home problems that I have no one to talk to about. She is very supportive and doesn’t judge at all.
