About me

I am a licensed professional counselor in Texas and have years of experience working with a variety mental health issues and ages. I have specialized in working with the LGBTQ population, with anything from helping people through the process of figuring out their identity to relationship counseling to coping with any oppression they might face. I began my career working with individuals with anger management needs and currently have an extensive amount of experience with families and helping parents through any issues they might be facing.
I have knowledge and practice of many prominent counseling theories, and will adapt my counseling approach to your needs and goals. I tend to implement a solution-focused approach in order to not only hone in on what your goals are, but also to get you to those goals as quickly as possible. I enjoy using cognitive-behavioral techniques to confront anything that is standing in the way of your goals and to promote positive thinking.
I am a kind-hearted and a very open-minded counselor, and am proud to be accepting of all walks of life. I am able to incorporate religion-based counseling, but am also open to individuals that are anti-religious. I am eager to help you achieve your goals and would love to hear what concerns you have. Looking for help is a monumental step towards change and I hope that I can work beside you through the next steps!

Good at keeping things moving forward, without being overbearing or too intense. Has really aided me in living with bipolar 1; not just surviving it.

Ryan has been a life saver and the favorite therapist I’ve ever had. His weekly deep thoughts are well received and always give your mind a challenge. Ryan helped me through a tough time in my life and I’m so grateful for him. Highly recommend this therapist! LGBT friendly too!

I want to highly recommend Ryan Smith and the work we have completed together. I have had a great deal of grief the last few years and Ryan has been a great sounding board as well as a very good therapist. I highly recommend and refer him as a terrific therapist.

Empathetic and knowledgeable. Having someone who shares your lives experience, especially being from the south and gay, hits home and makes it easier to open up.
