Samantha McEwan, BACP
About me
Hello, I’m a BACP-registered, trauma-informed psychotherapist, mental health nurse, educator and coach with over 25 years’ experience working in mental health. I’ve helped many people work through a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges — from social anxiety and depression to childhood trauma, self-esteem issues and relationship difficuties.
I am passionate about improving people's experiences of mental health care and have led improvement programmes to do this, with some of my work being published to share how change can be made.
I offer a safe, confidential and supportive space where we can explore what’s going on for you. Together, we’ll work to understand the root cause of your difficulties, not just the symptoms, and help you move forward with more clarity, confidence and purpose.
Previous clients have fed back on how they have benefited from my warm, insightful and professional approach, and that our work together helps them make real progress. It is always a privilege to be alongside my clients on their journey.
Here are some of the issues I commonly support people with:
• Anxiety, panic, and overthinking
• Depression, low mood and low self-esteem
• Emotional regulation issues
• Relationship and attachment difficulties
• Childhood trauma and complex PTSD
• Loss of identity, confidence or purpose
• Impact of chronic illness
• Eating disorders (binge eating, bulimia)
• Work-related stress, burnout, or bullying
My Approach
My style is warm, active, and collaborative. I combine evidence-based therapies like:
• CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
• ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy)
• Compassion-Focused Therapy

Since I started with Samantha I have felt strongly supported to the extent that the improvement in my mental health has been amazing. I was very anxious when we began and was unable to believe that I would so rapidly see an improvement. I am now able to recognize where my problems began and have been able to resume activities that previously I felt would be impossible, for example driving again. I am able to relax and to enjoy social situations that previously I had avoided. All in all this has been, and continues to be, an extremely positive experience.

Samantha makes me feel seen, heard and understood in our sessions and in our communications between sessions. She asks me questions which are so relevant to my situation and encourages me to think about what's really important, especially those things that I might have shied away from thinking about or discussing with other people.
She has set a really good pace in our conversations - my thoughts and feelings are quite complex, and I don't feel rushed to make any decisions or come to a conclusion.
As someone who is very open in sharing my feelings with friends and family I was a bit sceptical about how helpful talking therapy would be for me, but I am definitely feeling the benefits.
