Sara Bonilla, LMHC
About me
I am a licensed mental health counselor and art therapist with 8 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I have worked with people with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar and related disorders, and psychosis. I specialize in working with individuals for whom trauma is a central concern, particularly complex and early life trauma.
While I utilize a humanistic-oriented talk therapy approach, my background and training as an art therapist has also allowed me to create flexibility in my work, and I am excited to incorporate expressive therapies into sessions to explore your thoughts and feelings in new and different ways if that feels comfortable to you. I also draw skills and interventions from other approaches such as cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavioral, and emotion-focused approaches, to create an individualized way of working that is best for you. I am always thinking about the identities and contexts of those I work with, and recognize that systems and institutions differentially impact us and our power, privileges, and oppressions; I take this into account as we consider together the best course of treatment for you, and the goals you hope to achieve. I am always open to feedback and want to make this a process of co-creation that feels as meaningful as possible to you.
Thank you for trusting me to walk this part of your journey with you!
