About me

Okay, I am Shane, a counsellor who lives and works in Wiltshire, UK.

I provide a safe space for you and with a calm, natural, relaxed, way about me it solidifies that. In that space you will have no fear of judgement, can talk openly, swear, be able to express yourself in words, metaphors, images, drawing or music. Whatever feels best for you, I think it is important to work with your strengths, for example if you are a visual person imagery and metaphor may be a great way to express yourself and to incorporate in our work together.

I do like to challenge you when it is appropriate, so for example you may see a certain event from your past or behaviour you have in one way and one way only because you are you, I can help you shine a light on a different viewpoint, uncover it and make it open to you. I believe challenge is how we grow and get where we want.

Honesty, congruence, genuineness, however you want to call it I believe is vital to counselling work and therefore will be completely genuine with you. So if something comes into my head as we are discussing I will bring that into the room, of course only if it's appropriate and I felt that you would be okay with it. I understand that what I have just said could be scary, but it is something that builds up between us alongside the working relationship.

Working with your present situation and feelings are obviously what we will do, but at times when appropriate, looking into your past can be really helpful. For me it is how your past affects your present life, whether that is learnt behaviours, triggers, past experiences or trauma, understanding where the origin of your feeling or issue may have come from. This can be hard to look back and visit places or times that hurt, confuse or frustrate, that is why I am here to help you visit them safely.

I am very active and responsive, so I will check in with you via the messaging service, respond as soon as I can to your messages, send worksheets which I feel may be of use or interest to you, am happy helping you set goals and want to help you as much as I can. That is why I am here, helping and supporting you to reach where you want to go.

Take care

Shane really helped me when I was in a very dark place. His counsel was invaluable at a difficult time for me.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Shane has changed my life - excellent therapist who takes the time to listen, takes time out of his day to check in and is also a thoroughly nice person

I have had therapy sessions with Shane for a few months now and I can say that he has really given me a space to explore unresolved feelings that I have carried with me for a long time. I feel like he offers a judgement free space where you can speak your mind and it has amazed me how much lighter I feel in my daily life after a relatively short time. He is responsive to messages and checks in with you frequently so it really does feel like you have someone on your side when you have those bad days!

I've been working with Shane to go through a few problems I've been having and not only has he helped me through it but made me feel much more confident about myself and not once pushed me to do or talk about anything I wasn't comfortable with. Great therapist that I look forward to speaking to every week

Shane offers an extremely welcoming and judgement free space to share your thoughts and feelings. He regularly checks up on you and takes note of the issues you're having which means his messages are always relevant to your personal predicament. He goes out of his way to find resources to help you and are relevant to you. It really feels like having a friend who genuinely cares and listens.
