Shannon Almeida, LMFT
About me
Hi, I’m Shannon Almeida (she/her), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with nearly ten years of experience supporting adults through anxiety, neurodivergence, life transitions, identity exploration, relationship challenges, and family-of-origin patterns.
Therapy with me is collaborative, grounded, and active. In session, we'll use talk-therapy (emotional processing and body-based awareness) to understand what's happening beneath the surface. Not just what you think, but what you feel, avoid, repeat, and carry in your nervous system. I use approaches such as ACT, CBT, DBT, somatic and nervous-system work, narrative, and systemic therapies - Always striving to hold an anti-oppressive lens.
I believe insight matters, but insight alone isn't enough. Which means outside of session we'll use behavior-therapy (worksheets, reflection questions, coping skills). I don't require "homework" to be completed each time or expect perfection; but I do believe meaningful change happens when therapy becomes something that's practiced in daily life.
Lastly, I approach my work with both clinical training and lived awareness. As a queer, neurodivergent cis-woman living with chronic fatigue and pain, I understand we are all carrying layered experiences - personal, relational, and systemic. I aim to create a space that feels grounded, affirming, and safe, where you don’t have to filter or mask. While also helping you build practical tools, understand your patterns, and move toward a life that feels more aligned with your values and needs.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Shannon Almeida. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Working with Shannon has been wonderful. She is kind, approachable, and it’s clear she has a wide depth of knowledge. I was honestly shocked at how easy it was to connect with her, especially given all sessions are done in a virtual setting. I’m so impressed with how well the algorithm matched me with a therapist that fits my needs and areas of expertise - So much so, that I have already recommended BetterHelp to friends and family members.

Shannon has been great and has provided everything I had hoped therapy would bring. I’ve been able to have a major takeaway to apply to everyday life following every session we have had. Her mix of humor, caring and expertise makes her very easy to talk to while providing important context to grow.
