About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor with 19 years of experience. I provide individual, couples, and marriage and family therapy. I work with a wide range of issues ranging from anxiety, depression, anger management, grief, transitions, DSM disorders and beyond. I use a Solution Focused approach in counseling; this is based in cognitive-behavioral ideology. I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This means that I will share any idea, theory, model, philosophy or life experience that will support the client's growth and development in counseling. I mix counseling and education to help clients understand what may be going on in their lives and let them decide what they want to do about it.

My counseling approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I also encourage educational tools for clients to learn about and understand the issues they may be struggling with.

Congratulations, it takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Shawnna is awesome! I am so happy that we matched and we have been able to work through so many things in a short month. I plan to continue working with her and her knowledge and expertise have been such an amazing help to me. She is a great listener and really helps you look at situations from all angles and will tell you what you need to hear no matter what. She provides helpful worksheets that give different perspectives and really allow you to work through certain aspects of anxiety and depression that aren’t always easy to get through. She respond very fast and is there anytime I need her. I appreciate her so, so much!

Shawnna is a wonderful listener. Every session I have with her she is able to acknowledge and clarify what I am thinking, so that we can get to the root of the problem and come up with an action plan to improve my mental health. She has provided me helpful resources and activities to work on in between sessions, which has helped me overcome every day stressors, as well as work on issues that I have been dealing with for years. It has been reassuring to know that I am not the only one who struggles with negative thoughts and emotions, and that I have handled them like any other person would. I am thankful for the knowledge and skills she has shared with me so that I can regain happiness in my life once again.
