About me

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
In 2003, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University in 2018. My graduate program is accredited by the American Counseling Association’s Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the nationally recognized agency for counseling graduate program
THEORETICAL ORIENTATION
My approach to counseling is based upon Person-Centered, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral theoretical principles. During session, I strive to maintain an environment that contains unconditional positive regard, empathy and will be genuine. I guide clients through the process of exploring feeling, thoughts and solutions. I will work with you to develop a plan not just for the moment but to carry into the future.
COUNSELING BACKGROUND
My professional path started with a career in nursing. I learned that there was a large gap in whole body healthcare and I wanted to help my patients heal mentally. I made the transition to mental health because I wanted to make a lasting impact. I am trained in Grief and Loss Counseling, Trauma Counseling, Premarital Counseling, and Group Counseling. I have over 12 years of training and experience which includes work with terminally ill, military members and their families, alternative sexual life, trauma, and LGBTQ+. I am also EMDR trained.

She’s kind, thoughtful and caring. Actually listens to you when you talk and she made me feel self worth. Never made me feel judged at all. She’s a one of a kind, kinda therapist! Take a chance on her and you’ll be agreeing with everything I just wrote down.

Extremely kind and courteous, gets my sense of humor, and I can tell they genuinely just care about helping other people by how they connect and validate them.

Sherrita is an absolutely incredible therapist! She has helped me through some of the most difficult times in my life, and I am so grateful for her guidance and support. She is always kind and compassionate, and she has a way of helping me see things from a different perspective. Working with her has helped me control my anger and interact with life in a much healthier way. My wife and children have even noticed the positive changes in me. I can't thank Sherrita enough for all that she has done for me. I was with her for about half a year, and we worked through a lot in that time. She is truly a blessing, and I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a top-notch therapist.
