About Me
Hello! Seeking help is often very hard. Everyone needs support at some point and it takes a lot of courage to step out. I respect those who do so a great deal! Thank you for taking the time to consider me as a helper. While it is important to understand about my credentials and approach to therapy, it is also important that you know I respect you and I will be very careful about our counseling relationship. Your health and growth are important to me.
I have had successful experience in addressing trauma, foster/adoption-related issues, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, family crisis, and other areas of practice.
I have practiced as a counselor since graduating with my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Harding University in 2001. I am currently licensed in Arkansas, Arizona, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Texas. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families in residential and outpatient settings.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and principles of Emotion Focused Therapy, all with an overarching Systemic perspective, when working with clients. In the online setting, I will tend to also use some Solution-Focused techniques as well. Much of the basis of my thinking comes from my faith. While I will never intentionally impose my belief system on you, it is important that you know that it is a big part of my personal identity, which I believe cannot be fully separated from counseling work.
Whether you chose to work with me or another therapist, I hope you do find what works for you. I believe there is always hope, no matter how small it seems. I know that you have more tools than you feel like you do. I'd love to have the opportunity to help you dig in and find it in your life!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Shiann Metheny. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Shiann is wonderful. She is a great listener and offers a great outlook on things. Even though I have only been communicating with her a few weeks, she has been extremely helpful and sincerely cares about my well-being.
Very helpful and reliable
I feel like she listens and comes up with good strategies every session. She’s also very good at giving positive affirmations but not overloading it
Shiann is able to help me sort through my feelings to get to the source of my troubles and then helps me understand that source with a new lens. She then helps me see through that new lens that brings more peace and clarity. I’m so grateful for her help!
I have only had a few sessions with Shiann, but feel like she has gotten me to open up, acknowledge, and confront a lot of my fears, trauma, and is helping me learn to forgive, and work towards healing. I feel very hopeful that she will provide me with the skills and help I need.
She’s awesome!
Shiann is very good at listening "between the lines." She hears what you are saying explicitly, but is often able to tease out some underlying concerns or emotions that are the troubling factors one is experiencing. I have had only four sessions with her so far, but they are helpful and I anticipate that they will become even more helpful as she gets to know me better.
Shiann is very clear and kind.
Shiann is very understanding and always provides me with support and offers questions which provoke me to answer my own concerns. I always look forward to hearing from her as I know she will offer me guidance to be more self-reliant in the future, increasing my own personal self awareness.
One session with Shiann can redirect my thoughts and emotions in a completely new direction. She is honest and really points you where you need to go.
Shiann is amazing. She is quick to respond and has been really helpful with helping me talk things out.
Shiann is a knowledgeable and compassionate counselor. She provides invaluable insights.
I love talking with her. I can express everything I am thinking and not feel weird or strange. She is really awesome.
Betterhelp is exactly what I needed to fit into my life. And it bridges the gap with traditional therapy by allowing questions answers and feedback between sessions. Shiann has been great as a listener and an honest reflection of my thoughts and feelings. She is helping me work through the things that are important to me.
Shown is s very good counselor. She listens and ask questions. She gives good advice and she’s very concerned. I love the fact that she talks about the Lord and prays for me. I would offer her to anyone.
Shiann is very frank in a very constructive way and has helped me refocus my priorities.
She’s great.
Shiann Metheny is a great counselor. She makes me see things in myself that I didn’t even see. She tells me things from a perspective I would have never thought of. I appreciate her and everything she has already done for me. She responds in a timely manner and is always looking for my best interest.
Shiann is an incredible person and I’m so thankful for her help and support. I feel like I’ve been making so much progress with her on my team. Thank you Shiann, you’re amazing!
