Shirley Currier, LPC, LMFT
About me
I became interested in counseling through my own recovery from addiction. Thirty -four years ago, with seven years in my own recovery, I became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I worked in the office of a psychiatrist as a counselor for his patients with addictions. I soon realized that in many cases the addiction and abuse of substances was a symptom of other mental and psychological problems. So in 2000 I went back to school for a Masters in Clinical Psychology.
I have worked in physician's offices, non profit agencies, day treatment programs, and with the courts in Harris County in diversion programs with offenders. I am experienced in many approaches, cognitive-behavioral, psycho-dynamic, solution focused and trauma recovery. I view my clients as experts about their problem based struggles and simply offer my experience and knowledge in working to find a path to recovery together. I am accepting of different life-style choices and a liberal thinker.
If you are ready to begin your journey, I would be honored to accompany you.

Shirley has been a tremendous help to me. She has helped more in the short time she has been counseling than in all the years of therapy I’ve had before.

Shirley Currier is the first therapist I have been to. She has, by far, been more welcoming, kind, thoughtful, and caring than I could have ever hoped for. I know I am being heard and her advice has been very impactful. She listens and understands the decisions I have been making and is guiding me towards a healthier emotional well being. She has provided me with outside local resources, and sends me research to help me understand some of my personal struggles. I highly recommend her and appreciate her help.

Shirley is wonderful! She helped me work through some pretty tough issues with my marital struggles and helped me deal with my grief when my Dad passed. I am so grateful for Shirley
