About me

I became interested in counseling through my own recovery from addiction. Thirty -four years ago, with seven years in my own recovery, I became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I worked in the office of a psychiatrist as a counselor for his patients with addictions. I soon realized that in many cases the addiction and abuse of substances was a symptom of other mental and psychological problems. So in 2000 I went back to school for a Masters in Clinical Psychology.

I have worked in physician's offices, non profit agencies, day treatment programs, and with the courts in Harris County in diversion programs with offenders. I am experienced in many approaches, cognitive-behavioral, psycho-dynamic, solution focused and trauma recovery. I view my clients as experts about their problem based struggles and simply offer my experience and knowledge in working to find a path to recovery together. I am accepting of different life-style choices and a liberal thinker.

If you are ready to begin your journey, I would be honored to accompany you.

Shirley has been extremely helpful shedding light on issues that I’ve struggled with for many years and with other therapists. She has also given me the space and comfort level to open up about tough subjects. I’m very grateful for having the opportunity to work with her.

Shirley is wonderful! She helped me work through some pretty tough issues with my marital struggles and helped me deal with my grief when my Dad passed. I am so grateful for Shirley

My Counselor actually surprised me! I had never had a Counselor do a face to face virtual appointment. Shirley does a great job at discerning the actual high points of where I was coming from. I think she would be a great Counselor for most folks. I really love how she zeroed in on issues in me that I really didn’t see myself.
