About me
Sian Offord-Pool MBACP (Accred)
I am an qualified counsellor/psychotherapist and an Accredited and Registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). This means I work within the BACP Ethical Framework ensuring good and safe practice for clients always. I provide a safe, confidential and warm. professional counselling service in an integrative way, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Transactional Analysis and Person Centred approaches. I am a Restorative yoga instructor and teach mindfulness. I originally trained in the arts and use creative therapies too. I am qualified in Energy Healing too.
I became a counsellor in my 40s after becoming bedridden with M.E./Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I have been a manager at various companies in the UK and California. I understand the pressures of working life and also the difficulties of illness both for the patient and the effects on the family.
After my marriage breakdown and during the illness was when I discovered the benefits of counselling. I joined a 12 step program as I had an alcoholic relative and use the steps to this day. I can therefore offer a great deal of life and working experience in my counselling.
I have worked in a school with the parents. I also worked at a women's refuge helping women recover from abusive relationships, I worked at the local hospice with the staff and currently work at a charity counselling carers.
The purpose of counselling is to offer a safe, calm place in which to explore feelings and thoughts at difficult times of life, in order to learn new strategies
to cope with life’s storms in a more confident and resourceful way, tailoring my approach to each individual client. This can mean looking at the past and
present situations, and any blocks preventing moving forward. This is resolved during the counselling process, in a way that is comfortable with the client. This takes courage but these new life skills can lead to a happier life and a renewed self belief with the capacity to continue to deal with those life storms when they arise.
I will neither advise you or try to take control, but support you on your path of self-discovery, to assist you to take back the power over your own life. As a counsellor I am non-judgemental, accept you unconditionally, and recognise that it may take the client some time to build up complete trust in the process and me.
Looking for a counsellor can be a daunting experience, and the best way to start is to book an initial consultation. This is to find out what your concerns in your life are and fully explain how counselling works, what you can expect and to help you feel comfortable with this gentle and reassuring process, and with the counsellor.
