Stephen Matthews
About me
I am credentialed in the UK with 4 years of professional work experience. A member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, & coping with grief and loss. I also volunteer as a counsellor at a bereavement service and have experience in a multitude of psychological concerns that my clients may face in such a difficult and personal time. Other areas where I have experience in are ADHD and Autism where clients have felt heard for the first time.
I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgement. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.
My main modality is person-centred therapy where you, the client, is the most important person when we're together, and is important for me to understand your thoughts and feelings at this time, allowing us to work together towards an outcome of your choosing, or until you feel a more strengthened autonomy which allows you to manage your day-to-day activities more productively. However, I will incorporate elements of other modalities through a variety of strategies and tools to help you manage your current issues to where you feel able to disengage from the therapeutic relationship for as long as you need to, with the option to return to therapy as and when you need it.

Additional areas of focus: Abandonment, Attachment issues, Autism and Asperger Syndrome, Caregiver issues and stress, Communication problems, Coping with natural or human-caused disaster, Divorce and separation, Guilt and shame, Life purpose, Men's issues, Post-traumatic stress, Self-love

Honestly couldn’t thank Stephen anymore after everything he’s done for me so far. I was so nervous to start therapy but Stephen put me at ease straight away and gave me the time to open up when I felt comfortable. I now look forward to my sessions and I’m so glad Stephen is the therapist that was chosen for me.
