Hello. My name is Steve Johnson, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I have been working in the helping professions my entire adult life. I first became licensed over 25 years ago and have had the pleasure of helping many people over the years, both online and in my private practice. I have worked with individuals, couples and families seeking counseling and served as a supervisor to newly licensed counselors and therapists. While serving on the Faculty at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as the Assistant Director for the Office of Clinical Services and Senior Data Analyst, I learned the importance of setting measurable outcomes and establishing goals for treatment.
Yes, I am experienced, trained and qualified, but most importantly, I care about the people that I am working with. Ultimately, I view myself as "a helper." My promise to you is that I will strive to provide the best care that I can for you. I am committed to do my best to help with whatever is brought to me. For me the most important part of the helping process is the connection and empathy shared with those that I am helping.
I have learned that "no two people are alike", and "no two situations are alike." When we engage in a therapeutic connection, that is a one of a kind experience . The unique therapeutic connection that is established has never happened before, and will never happen again.
I have found that healing can occur, lives can be changed, and goals can be achieved. Over the years, I have also learned that no problem is too great, or too small. I have also come to find that although it is never my intent to cause emotional pain, there are times in the therapeutic helping process when we must walk through some painful territory together to achieve success. My promise to you is that you are not alone.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Steve Johnson. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Steve is an excellent listener who helps me frame my anxiety in other ways.
I like that Steve has a step by step
Approach to my therapy.
Great way of therapy
Steve has been really helpful with a variety of struggles/challenges that I've had over the last year. He offers solutions or ideas to solve conflicts, and talks through my fears and anxiety with me. I feel comfortable talking to him about anything that I'm going through and always know he'll have some helpful insights for me.
Steve is a great listener and a true professional. His methods are progressive and modern, which is a big advantage for me. Steve helps to sort out the problems, get them in a row, accept and let go. Thanks Steve! You are the best.
Steve is the third therapist I’ve had and he is definitely the most professional as well as knowledgeable. I have much confidence in his advice and expertise.
He is able to help me through difficult situations and I am very grateful for his time.
I am a professional. I feel my knowledge & skills are respected & utilized. My deficits, weaknesses, strengths and needs are discussed intensely with therapist. I feel we work as a team with techniques individualized for MY needs.
Smart, caring, insightful. Amazing to talk with him. He really understands and shows a great deal of compassion.
Steve is an incredible therapist, super supportive and understanding of all my situations. A genuine soul that really makes the effort and creates a safe space to share all. Could not recommend enough!
When I started therapy again, I expected that I was going to have to talk with a couple different professionals to find the one that fit right. I was so wrong. From my first session with Steve, I felt heard. He laid out a plan for my therapy involving different skill sets, but we also took on new challenges as they came up. I was able to heal through a lot of my past trauma and open a new relationship with my parents, thanks to Steve's insight and affirmations (and of course some hard work on my end!) Like all things with mental health, not every therapist is right for every person, but I highly recommend Steve, and I'm grateful that BetterHelp found me a therapist that is both knowledgable and personable, and has so much experience in areas where I struggle.
When I joined BetterHelp, I was skeptical of how effective it would be, and how well the Counselor matching process would work. I could not be happier with my match.
Steve Johnson is a phenomenal Therapist. He is patient, kind, and really spends time understanding my personal needs. He tailors our sessions to my particular style, so I can get the most out of each session. Our sessions are comfortable and relaxed, instead of the rigid, sterile environment I anticipated from these types of sessions. I have grown and healed in so many ways already, under Steve's guidance.
Steve is a very respectful and responsive Therapist. I have had an enriching and enjoyable experience discussing my life with him, and I mean to continue. Thanks immensely for your wisdom and support.
In just a month Steve has already helped me 'unlock' so much. He was very helpful with my fear of needing too many sessions and not managing financially, which I truly admired. He has reassured me and helped me gain confidence in my ability to manage my anxiety. I shall be taking a short break and will resume with Steve shortly.
Steve is a comfort and a pleasure to speak with. He listens, and offers practical exercises that have immensely helped. As someone who is very quiet and shy about expressing themselves, I find it amazing that I can speak to Steve so freely.
Steve was absolutely brilliant in helping me pinpoint the source of my fears and anxiety. Also at dealing with my mental health in general. He was excellent to chat with and understood exactly the difficulties I was facing and how to handle them. Would recommend for anyone feeling depressed or struggling with anxiety
With confidence I would say he is a great counselor! He has helped me get so far in my mental and emotional growth within just a short period of time. I am not to keen on spilling my heart and personal thoughts to someone, but he makes me feel like I can talk about anything. I know that's probably something to be assumed but I still have to mention it because it is so important to me.
He's respectful of values, beliefs, and thoughts. Steve is pleasantly casual while still being professional and is lovely to talk with. 5 stars, would recommend :)
