My main approach is "cognitive behavioral therapy," because it's often how we see things that cause our suffering. AND, there's a lot going on with our "animal brain" that governs our behavior without our awareness. I borrow some from mindfullness training.
My personal experience is rich with a variety of problems many of us face, here my age works for me. I GET it when its the little simple ordinary stressors that suddenly seem unbearable, so we feel silly even asking for help.
The most important thing in therapy is "therapeutic alliance." You must feel that you are HEARD. To that end, I want to practice "feedback informed therapy," in which I ask you to let me know how the session went for you.
I am reluctant to take on clients who have had suicidal thoughts in the previous two weeks. This is because I believe serious depression needs meds as well as therapy and this platform does not have prescribers with whom I may consult. Still, I know that THINKING about it isn't the same as planning on it.
I am not your therapist for panic disorder or PTSD, I just haven't had enough experience to feel confident, and again I think persistent anxiety needs meds.
I need the info requested in the information form before our first session. If you were able to schedule before providing the information requested in the information form, I may have to cancel the session until that's available.
My informed consent requirements are more hassle, I know. Better help is GREAT in two ways: you can switch therapists very easily, You go to the "help" section, use the pull down menu, select "change therapist"
BetterHelp has had up to 200 million subscribers! For it to work best, you should update the apps on your Android or iPhone, use Chrome on your laptop or desktop, make sure you have good internet connection. When you use a laptop or desktop, it is easier to access the "help" pull down menu, which will let you "run video session test" or "change therapists."
Better Help gives you almost unlimited contact through the text/message function on the platform. I keep my caseload small so I can offer help or lend an ear throughout the week, not just during sessions. I usually check twice a day.
Best wishes! It takes courage to seek help, and sometimes persistence to find the right therapist. I hope I can serve you, but if we aren't a good fit, then please get help from someone else--don't give up.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Susan Keene. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Today was the first day speaking with Susan and I feel really comfortable with her and even though it has been just the first day with her I can tell there will be a bright future ahead of me. Thank you jesus for guiding me to Susan
Susan is an empathetic listener and has helped me find new ways to think about my problems. I appreciate that she checks in with me via text and suggests books or other media that might complement our therapy sessions.
Susan has been great at listening to the problems I have been having, and helping me work through them.
